I have been lucky enough to have travelled the world widely, both by personal endeavour and through work. Where possible I visited countries before they became changed by tourism and have managed to do this in many places. (In fact, some of these countries are unlikely to ever become tourist destinations!)
During this time I travelled through and worked in India as well as Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka, where I developed a love of Indian food, subsequently becoming one of the principal restaurant reviewers for the Curry Club and Good Curry Guide, often visiting three different Indian restaurants a week. I also acted as a Regional Judge in the National Curry Chef competition for three years. This background probably explains why my reviews of pleasant but fairly typical Indian restaurants are often less enthusiastic than some.
I still love to travel, but the advancing years means that I now do so in more comfortable circumstances than my earlier backpacking days.
