These three books will introduce you into Naples’s history and natural resources, three very good reads before traveling.

In Naples (Images of America) Lynne Howard Frazer explores the history of Naples from its foundation in 1885 to today. The book presents the events that shaped the city from an isolated resort for sick northerners to the developed city of today. The author describes the effects of hurricane Donna, the construction of its first pier, the arrival of the train in 1927 and the construction of the Tamiami Trail as part of that process.

Naples, Florida: The Newcomers Guide to Paradise by Lisa Cortright and Jennifer Bittner is a more practical guide to move around Naples. It includes information about shopping, attractions, restaurants, sports. It is a good reference book. Having moved to Naples, the authors fill an informational gap and they answer many of the questions that travelers and newcomers may have.
