The Buddha is a fully operational, 3 level bar, restaurant, lounge and oasis located in the booming town of San Pedro la Laguna, Guatemala. In it's third year of operation The Buddha has grown and evolved into a well established destination on the backpacker trail in Guatemala. San Pedro & The Buddha are located on the shores of Lago Atitlan and the restaurant is situated along the main trail that connects the two sides of the main tourist zone in town. This is a foot path only which means, no cars, no buses, no nasty fumes and NO TRAFFIC!! (Except for the occasional horse &/or motorcycle.) The Buddha is located in the heart of the popular backpacker's 'Ruta Maya' or 'Mayan Trail.' The business is based on a broad, Asian/Buddhist theme which is reflected in the food, cocktails, decorations (including Tibetan prayer flags, a seven-foot, 350lb Buddha statue, incense burners, rice paper lights, a Balinese gong, Buddhist altar styled back-bar, etc...) and by the general layout of the upstairs restaurant. Music and ambience are two of the key elements in The Buddha's success and the restaurant/bar boasts one of the largest and broadest music selections in town which is played through two state of the art sound systems. The current and original owners and creators are backpackers and world travelers with dozens of years of experience between them in the restaurant, bar & service industry. The Buddha's creators have maintained its success by being continually innovative, involved and service oriented. The first floor bar features a unique, handcrafted altar styled back bar, 2 large workspaces, a PC based DJ terminal, a full-size pool table, a dart board, 2 bathrooms, aluminum barstools, an aluminum and wood bar surface and several loungey seating areas. The second floor restaurant & lounge features large arching windows with incredible lake and volcano views, platform seating along with plush lounge areas, a separate sound system, a projector and screen for movies, one bathroom, a storage room, a large, comfortable & fully equipped kitchen and a secure office/storage room that's big enough to hang a hammock in. At the moment, the third floor rooftop terrace features a simple bar, sundeck seating and one of the most amazing views of the lake, the surrounding hillsides and the many volcanos distant and near. Contractors are being sought for an additional rooftop deck and a permanent roof covering.
