Had a wonderful time due to incredible experience being in the Amazon jungle.
Good things:
- felt very looked after whilst out on adventures
- range of experiences to choose from- all very exhilarating- felt very free
- food was an amazing effort given the remote location- quite tasty
- have never seen so many swimming fish in my life- they were practically jumping into the boat!
- great time in evenings with fellow guests
- having individual guides (Indigenous and English speaking) was great and gave freedom to do a range of activities
- good setup at lodge
- in general everything was quite organised
- bed/shower arrangements comfortable enough for me- slept like a baby to the sound of birds!
- Otorongo allowed me to leave my big suitcase in their office in Iquitos (just took a small bag on the trip)
- travel arrangements went smoothly (out to the Amazon by boat and back)
- it’s just awesome to be on the Amazon and in the Amazon jungle!
Areas for improvement:
- very pushy and demanding for tips at end- fair wages are very important to me but guide Luis became downright sullen and moody when he didn’t get everything he wanted
- pressured to give money to people on stops en route to the lodge, even at stops I had not asked to visit
- guide Luis good in some ways- generally enthusiastic about adventures and...Had a wonderful time due to incredible experience being in the Amazon jungle.

- pressured to give money to people on stops en route to the lodge, even at stops I had not asked to visit
- guide Luis good in some ways- generally enthusiastic about adventures and often pleasant. He did, however, have a tendency to be intermittently sulky and moody throughout the trip- he needs to work on this.
- staff resisted giving me my room key, which was important for me to feel safe during the night as a single, female traveller
- I hurt my leg during trip (large 25cm diameter oval deep purple bruise) due to rotten wood in room. Despite it being their fault no help offered by staff who seemed to just want to dismiss the injury. Eventually (reluctantly) given about 3 tiny shavings of ice by kitchen- not enough to alleviate swelling. No further help offered. Oddly left alone to deal with this problem despite staff being helpful in other ways.
- Anthony pushy about me writing a review for him at the end. Happy to do so but would like to be asked- not told.
Suggest anyone considering this trip bring sunscreen, hat, plenty of DEET mosquito repellant, loose long and light clothing and a good set of good walking boots/rubber boots (the surfaces you walk on can be quite wet). There is not much to see in Iquitos but it is a useful start/end point for the tour.
Hope the above feedback is useful. The important thing is that it was a wonderful experience that I will treasure forever. We were not in the most remote part the jungle exactly, but it was jungle enough for me. The company got the many of the important things right- it was a fabulous trip. There are some points for the business to work on which will make it even better.
Best of luck for the future and thankyou!
