A nice and beautiful hotel situated in a beautiful mountain with a good host, and big and well decorated rooms. Vasilis the owner and manager of this hotel will take around for hiking, rafting, canyoning , cycling, but also will arrange for a good meal his fantastic garden. Rooms are big and warm also with a normal size bathroom. I am looking forward for my next spring come back.

Room Tip: Ask for room number 5..

Wwe are a family of 7 people, 2 adults and 5 children. We spent 4 days in Papingo in Saxonis house in Sep 2012. Vasilis and his beautifully desined gave us a perfect base to enjoy this magical region and we expected to come back to Saxonis in the end of the day. Every corner of the rooms, the yard and the public spaces is well decorated and maintained. Vassilis was helpfull, warm and friendly.

I first discovered Papingo and the Zagori region in 1999. I fell in love with the wild beauty of the mountains, the endless trekking routes and the tranquil untouched beauty of the stone villages. I returned in 2002, but I didn’t discover Saxonis Houses until 2011. I came with my partner and our two dogs to stay for 5 days. We both instantly fell in love with the warm welcome, the rustic homely atmosphere, the delicious buffet breakfasts with local and international home made food, and with the personal, yet professional treatment of the owner, Vassilis Nassiakos, who bought the hotel from its original owner in 2008. The rooms are all made and decorated in the traditional Zagori mountain style – wood, hand painted fireplaces and built in beds. The hotel is the perfect place for a getaway from the hectic stress of everyday life, a way to enjoy spectacular mountain surroundings, while having a peaceful, cosy base to relax in.
The hotel differs from others of the region with Vassili’s open and helpful nature, the delicious breakfasts, and the offer of personalised mountain guide (with prior arrangements) all included in the price of the room.
Saxonis Houses offers excellent value for money for the rooms with breakfast included, and has one apartment room, offering full kitchen facilities. Free wifi is available.
This year, 2012, my partner and I decided to return to spend our entire holiday here at Saxonis Houses, after having a truly wonderful experience last year.
The hotel is in a unique and privileged location at the start of various treks: the beautiful and dramatic Vikos canyon, the Ano Klidonia and Voidomatis river route, and is 5 minutes away from the route to Astraka Peak, Drakolimini Lake route, Astraka mountain refuge, Gamila Peak route, amongst many more.
The unique and charming “Kolimbithres”, natural rock swimming pools, are a 5 minute stroll from Saxonis Houses, and are the perfect place to relax in after hiking.
Vassili arranges horse riding routes from Papigo itself, and kayaking, rafting and canyoning, close by (10 mins by car).
The village of Papigo where Saxonis Houses is located, is in the Vikos-Aoos National park, and while keeping with the preservation laws, still offers traditional and charming cafés, tavernas and a peaceful atmosphere. There are plenty of tavernas located 4 minutes on foot from the hotel, and offer truly delicious food at reasonable prices.
For anyone who wishes to disconnect and relax and/or enjoy trekking or other sports in one of the world’s most spectacular mountain regions, Saxonis Houses is the perfect base to do this from.

Room Tip: All the rooms are totally quiet and have their own particular style and charm - speak to Vassili and explain what you need. The Pink and the blue room are marvelous and sunny while the old cellar is a deliciously cool and cozy room. There is also one apartment room with a fully equipped kitchen for those who want the option of eating in (we chose this option this year).

Very hospitable hosts. Beautiful hotel in fabulous surroundings and mouth-watering breakfast made of fresh local produce.

Pagino is an isolated and old village in a mountainous setting. Access to the Saxonis hotel (as for others in the region) is restricted but well worth the effort.

Vasilis was very helpful in getting us on the Vikos Gorge walk.
