At best El Toyo should be used as a base. Not pretty and not that many bars/restaurants points of interest on the doorstep. Land side of the promenade is a man made pond with bars and restaurants on two sides. My first impression was "what is the point of a muddy coloured pond surrounded by concrete"? Could be made to look nice with the addition of a small planted island or illuminated fountain or both.

Nice quiet beach never crowded with people. You wont find much to do here except chill out on the beach. The sand is gritty and in places hard on the feet waters edge is a lot better. To the left of the resort is a nature reserve apart from a few cars going down the gravel track it was mainly deserted when we walked down.
On the main beach are a couple of beach bars to grab a cold drink and watch the world go by. There is a long promenade where you can take a walk and a few bars and restaurants at Plaza del Mar surrounded by a small lake.
Although there are 5 large hotels in the resort we never found it to be very busy the restaurants and bars in the town were very quiet throughout our weeks stay.
El Toyo is a nice place if all you want to do is relax and chill out. If your looking for gift shops, bars and clubs this isn't the place.

big beach, really clean, not many sunbeds or umbrellas so take your own! Right across the road from the hotel so no need for buses.

Beaches of El Toyo are empty with very few people. There are no facilities apart from a hut with toilets. The beach itself is gravel and stony.

El Toyo beach is very clean and litter free. The beach itself is gritty. Behind the beach is a long promenade with extensive decking walkways and places to sit. The beach has numerous toilet blocks and a lifeguard. Seems to be used mainly by locals at weekends but is never crowded. El Toyo is a new resort with many apartments and houses but few shops and eating establishment. Infrastructure roads, cycleways, and footpaths are in good as new condition and there is plenty of free parking.
