Owner description: Lido Cinemas is a brand new eight screen artiplex showing both commercial and new release art house films in the heart of Hawthorn's bustling Glenferrie Road. Our exciting new cinema hosts special events and ensures audiences enjoy an intimate and specialised cinematic experience with films that cater for everyone. Possessing a vibrant atmosphere and boutique, individually designed cinemas, Lido's diverse program of films and events will appeal to the many different tastes of film aficionados in the local area of Hawthorn and of wider Melbourne. The Lido's unique space has lost none of its grandeur since opening in 1912 when it first opened as a cinema. Innovative Architect Aidan Halloran has combined the building's original structural features with contemporary design and technology. Preserving the building's historic charm has been at the forefront of the design process and we hope you enjoy seeking out the cinema's gorgeous original features. The Lido sees some of the world's most cutting edge technology, including a 4K projector and Dolby Atmos, contrasted beautifully in our historic venue. If you look above you'll also find Lido's impressive rooftop cinema. Our rooftop forms as the first venue in mainland Australia to have a rooftop screen attached to the cinema.

The title says almost all. Comfortable seating for about 40 in each cinema, good venue for snacks, light meals or drinks, a variety of usual and arthouse movies, and value for money has made this our usual cinema.

Apart from the fact that the theatre is just 200m from home everything here is done well. Great membership deals - yay. Delicious food - love Piccolina Gelateria ice creams. Don't ever lose them. Yummy wines. I'm yet to experience the rooftop. It can't wait. Have been to jazz nights here and they are fantastic. I love how there is a little bit of everything to keep you entertained. Oh, and a first for movie theatres - congratulations on having heaps of girls loos. It's the little things that count.

The Lido is a boutique cinema a few minutes walk from Glenferrie train station. It's small enough to feel cosy but still big enough to show a range of movies from arthouse to pop culture and children's films. You can order your usual popcorn and such from the candy bar, and they also offer barista coffees, beer and wine. They also have a vegan friendly range of ice creams in snack size tubs. There are some booths to sit in and enjoy your coffee if you decide to meet up a little earlier, and they also have a rooftop cinema which I haven't been up to but is worth a mention. The only thing I thought they could improve on was a better membership deal for their regular customers. I've never seen a cinema full there and they would have made a lot more money off of me if they'd offered tickets around the $13 mark.

There was a dining area which we did not try out
Candy bar served alcohol and Lido choc tops which weren't too overpriced (same as at other cinemas)
Theatre room seating was comfortable and the screen was large enough
The theatre room was smaller than in regular cinemas and gave the whole thing a more cosy feel

I can't believe it's taken me this long to find this fabulous boutique suburban cinema.
It's a good change from the mega cinemas.
Located in the cosmopolitan heart of Hawthorn with plenty of parking in the Coles car park at the rear. And what a bonus there is a fabulous little Italian cafe/ bar also at the rear next to the car park called Vaparetto ( I think). I saw Lion there last Tuesday night & tickets only $9.50 each! I will be back.
