Our friends invited us to Borgo a Mozzano, near Lucca Italy for their wedding. We knew it was going to be beautiful but we couldn't have expected this level of awe inspiring setting that surrounded the Villa. Every room is unique with either a shared or individual bathroom. the Villa and cottages are incredible and is so idyllic. The only thing i would recommend is hiring a car from your arriving airport as the taxis charge a fortune for short journeys. for example, a 5 minute ride could cost you 30 euros. If your OK with that, then cool but i wanted to warn you. I will hire a car if i ever go back. Ultimately I would have loved to have held me wedding here as it is beautiful place and location. so close to Pisa.

Room tip: Every Room has a great view but a room with a private bathroom is better.

We were guests at a wedding and spent four nights here. The villa is situated on a steep hill, high up in Borgo (10 min approx by car from village centre) and is signposted by a small sign on the LHS of the road that takes you on a long narrow single lane track. When you reach the end of the track you will see a very beautiful villa in well kept grounds with scenic views across the valley and two pools. The décor is in keeping with the character and age of the property.
Pre wedding arrangements were a relaxed affair and everything went well on the day. On the wedding day the staff at the villa were helpful and well organised. A special mention for the lady in the utility/laundry area who showed us how to work their appliances as nearly all the guests had travelled and needed to iron their wedding attire. I had brought a travel iron and had the right adaptor, but not everyone had, so we shared as best we could. Think about how many guests use hair appliances/phones/cameras etc., you’re stuck if they do not work – see tip below.

We were staying in the main building on the 2nd floor, the rooms were spacious with simple décor. There are no lifts and all levels and outbuildings are accessed via stone steps or cobbled paths, not a problem for us but could be for less able or elderly guests. We shared a bathroom with two other family members and found a system to let the others know we were in there (lock both doors and remember to unlock both on exit!).
The villa has many rooms and outdoor areas so the guests were able to mingle, spread out and be comfortable without being on top of each other. The kitchen was well equipped and we were supplied with many provisions for the few times when we were self catering. All the wedding meals were of a good quality and very generous.
Wedding guests not staying at this accommodation were ferried to and fro by various exemplary taxi drivers who could not have been more helpful.
In summary a beautiful wedding venue in beautiful countryside.
Tip: you must have adapter for "Type L " Italian CEI 23-16/VII, adapter for "Type C " European CEE 7/16 Europlug will not work because it is too big for the socket). Italian sockets (or at east within the last 20 years) use a 3 pin plug, which is 3 round pins in a row, the middle being an earth. However there are two different sizes, small and large. You can buy multi-socket adaptors in any hardware store or outdoor market, which will fit both small and large. . A two-pin adaptor (with small pins, not fat ones) will fit into the villa’s small socket, no earth.

Room tip: Accessibllity - check access with Villa if you have any mobility impairment.

My wife and I held our wedding here in October 2014. Having views several other venues beforehand, our decision was fairly easy once we had seen Villa Catureglio. For such an old, historical estate, the upkeep and ground maintenance is impeccable. The managers and groundsmen just seem to take so much pride in its appearance. As for the location, up in the hills overlooking the valleys of the Alpe Apuane, the views are simply breath-taking.
Our wedding couldn't have gone any better. Given the time of year, we were lucky with the weather and were able to have our ceremony out on the front lawn in-between the main villa and the chapel. We then had drinks and canapés on the rear lawn before congregating in the old barn for our reception and wedding breakfast.
I cannot fault Villa Catureglio in any way at all. Richard the manager is such a welcoming, hospitable man and given that like me he's English, it just made the understanding between us a little more easy! From organising the hire of a wheelchair for one of my grandparents to lending me a bicycle to ride down to the local village, no request is too much for Richard.
I honestly wouldn't change anything about my experience here and fully intend to return for a holiday to rekindle the wonderful memories that we shared together.
