I've been visiting the Queen of the South since 2010, when it was still under the previous management. Two years ago, I tried out the "renovated" Queen and was very disappointed. 'Standard' rooms which they have built are hotbox, cheap bungalows in the parking lot. Guests are not informed of this while booking. Imagine paying all that money to show up and be led to a room built in a parking lot that is below the hill BEHIND the garden property of the hotel - no sea view, and listening to to noise of staff coming and going at night. It's really reprehensible business practice.

In short, this isn't a resort - it's a hotel that's been renovated and over-developed for more money.

I went back for a second visit to see if things had improved. It's one of the most beautiful views in Yogya at the far end of Parangtritis Beach. I was sure to book the "superior" room to be on the actual resort property, not in the parking lot.

The Superior rooms have been retrofitted, but not much else. They are still musty smelling and I cannot understand the huge hike in price from what they used to cost. Not much in the way of amenities given the place's insistence on "resort" status. Other than adding an ill-located cabana in the middle of the garden area, and a renovated front desk area, the hotel is not much different than it was. However, the increased number of rooms means that if they place is fully booked, there are far too many guests for the rather small pool area. The pool was dirty and not well maintained.

What the hotel has done around the area is really unfortunate - the access road in and out has now been ripped apart for their wedding chapel project. You can see increased degradation on the hillside where they continue construction. It's a shame they haven't tried to develop the area in a more ecologically sound way, given it's location is the big appeal. The whole hillside will collapse with erosion at the rate they are going. Not to mention they dump the dirty pool water right down onto the beach where people have small warungs and residences.

Food and service are underwhelming. I'd recommend coming up for the view, or for drinks on the cliffside dining area, but staying here is rip off. If you do stay, take the stairs down to the beach and head towards the Cafe de Paris, where you can get fresh seafood from the local family that runs it for a much cheaper price.

Overall, still sad to see a well-appreciated local establishment taken over for sheer greed.

Room tip: DO not book the standard room unless you want to stay in parking lot!

The view was remarkably beautiful.
It felt like you were staying in heaven. The receptionists were friendly and ready to help.
The restaurant staff, though, needed some more training so that guests would feel better handled. The food was great. The best Spaghetti I've ever tasted.

Certainly will return..

We booked 3 superiors room for family trip. At a glance it is indeed a good resort, the best in southern beach-lines in Yogyakarta.

The resort looked new, with great view, comfortable room, and exclusive access to the beach. The infinity pool - although it wasn't too big, it's one of the main attraction. The breakfast (included) was varied and tasty. We can also order fresh coconut water to enjoy the sunset. Free wifi was only available in the lobby area and around, not inside the room..

Pretty downside : Cleanliness is seemed to be abandoned, my sister in law found stinky surprise in her restroom right after checking in. Housekeeping should prepared the room should have noticed it.

The booking can only be done in limited ways. Online booking wasn't available at the time I reserved, so my brother made call and reserve it through whatsapp.

They prepare the 'room service' menu - which cannot be order on the dinner time during our stay. The said because they have prepared buffet menu that evening. Problem is, the 100 IDR buffet menu only consist of : Butter chicken, Fried rice, Fried Noodle, and Fried bean cake/tempe. Sound like minimalist breakfast buffet. We wanted something more for dinner of course, but to get out and find something outside the hotel did matters if you don't know your surrounding well. it is very very far from the city center, so be prepared!

Overall, if you are well prepared, the scenery worths the pain.

Been there during the weekday, the place is quite and peaceful. The view is great! The swimming pool is just above the ocean. As it was weekday, we can swim just like our own private pool! No other people using the pool, but only three of us :) Nice!

Room tip: choose room with ocean's view will be nicer
