Visited with my daughter, son-in-law & 2 grandkids.
A beautifully well-cared for venue.
It was a bright day and the kids loved looking around the peacocks, pond and wildlife. Loved explaining to my grandkids how waterwheels and mills worked so educational too.
We were sat outside – had the weather deteriorated the table had an ample umbrella.
The service was first class – super attentive staff who were so polite.
As it was Sunday we had the roast beef – wonderfully cooked and presented. Exactly what I could have hoped for. My daughter had the Nut Roast which I sampled for the first time ever – not my choice but it was lovely.
We’ll definitely visit again but my son-in-law & I agreed on one improvement – no ‘pigs in blankets’ with roast beef? Would have loved to have seen that offered as a side dish – we’d have paid for them!
All in all, a lovely experience. Thank you.

Visited The Turtley Corn Mill for a family birthday lunch. It was a great choice!

The staff were very friendly and attentive without being overly intrusive. The menu is reasonably varied with something to suit most tastes. I had the catch of the day - local sole which was fresh and perfectly cooked. The rest of the party had either fish and chips or the chicken burger. I tried both and they were also very good.

For dessert I had the baked yoghurt out of curiosity. It was actually really good although very rich and filling. They also have a good selection of local ales.

Probably the best thing about this place is it's location. It is an old mill and has extensive grounds with a lake and river. There is an outside dining area although it was raining when we visited so we were consigned to the inside.

It's not the cheapest place but given the good service, good food and great location I think it's value for money.

Thank you - we’re all delighted you enjoyed your time with us at Turtley particularly as these tricky times can prove to be quite a challenge to the crew1

I know you live a fair distance away but nevertheless I hope we are able to welcome you back in the not too distant future.

From initially seeing a 4.5 star rating and being fully booked last night we decided to book a table in the restaurant for our final night of our holiday down south. When we arrived the staff seemed lovely and brought us to the table and it went downhill from there.

Our drinks took longer than our food to arrive which was strange however not that much of an issue, but the quality of the food we had received was okay, nothing spectacular and was reflected in the speed that it had came out. We had ordered a burger and while the burger was nice, the chips were that of frozen oven cooked quality and had some strange curry relish. Not a thing we would personally choose for a burger but each to their own.

The service was what really let this business down as after that initial meeting the staff wanted nothing to do with us. We weren’t checked up on or asked for any kind of drinks and when requesting items like extra cutlery we were spoken to with kind words, yet the intonation was as if we had offended them deeply. When our starters were collected nothing was said to us they were just whisked off the table by the supposed manager, no offers wanting to know how the even food was. It was all very unwelcoming and not how a restaurant of a 4 star hotel should be ran.

The final kick of the teeth was the bill, after asking the gentleman who cleared our desserts for our bill we had to then ask another member of staff almost 10 minutes later while trying to a) actually find someone and b) get their attention. Almost £90 for this mediocre food which, although forgive us for being from Yorkshire and not used to southern prices, was absolutely bizarre as at home we are able enjoy food from a Three-Rosette menu which is at a much higher standard of fine dining for that price.

We were made to feel like we were not welcome there and had massively inconvenienced them which, frankly after 18 months of hell everyone has endured was shocking and you would think that staff would be excited to see customers again. We had a read of some reviews and, the way the, assuming proprietor, responds to negative reviews is shocking. Please take this with a pinch of salt to help yourselves better your business as we know we are not the only people who have felt this way recently.

We’re very sorry you have found yourselves down south for your holidays this year; we have family in Yorkshire and we love it up there!

As you say Covid has made life ‘hell” for us all; hospitality everywhere, including Yorkshire, is having a tough time at the moment but happily most folk appreciate that with all the unrelenting pressure on staffing, suppliers, over demand, isolation, and the dreaded pings, life is far from normal. I am not convinced you are aware of this!

Nevertheless I’m truly sorry you were unable to find any pleasure at all in your visit to Turtley
