my partner and i stayed there as part of our trip to Kenya.
it is such a laid back amazing property but we felt shortchanged when we realised that most of the villas do not have air conditioning.
If you intend to travel during the months of October to March, i would sincerely suggest a different hotel.
All of us have slummed it and stayed in hostels but some of the cheaper hotels we stayed in on the coast of kenya also had airconditioning so we could not understand the logic of saving on that and making people suffer when the wind dropped.
the food was superbly prepared, tasty and well presented.
A truly wonderful property but the owners need to stop shortchanging clients by promising the world and forgetting to inform them that they will not have airconditioning in their rooms.
we visited the supermarket chandrana on one of the days and saw that the amount we paid for just two nights stay was enough to buy a whole airconditioner so why not buy one and fit into the rooms?
definitely not visiting again.

Room Tip: ask for aircondioned villa if you intend to stay here

Lovely! Always a pleasure to visit this gem on the Indiana Ocean coast. This is where the adventure of Africa (thanks to all the wonderful daytrips you can do in the surrounding including mini safaris, waterfalls, diving, sailing, cliff jumping, canoeing, snorkeling, riding etc etc) and the relaxed beach hang out meet. Everyone in the family is happy and catered to everyones needs. Will of course return again!

Room Tip: all rooms have different perks- hard to decide!

What a peaceful, tranquil setting. The owners have gone to great lengths to make your stay relaxing. We went as a couple during the school holiday half term period. We were initially worried by the number of children but the management went to great lengths to make sure that the "couples" were not surrounded by noisy children. We dined each meal away from the families, in beautiful beach settings. Both lunch and dinner were in different locations each day. There were adequate sun beds for everyone. The food was good and the staff exceptional. Thank you to all the staff for a lovely ending to our holiday.

Room Tip: Air conditioning will make for a more comfortable stay. Not all rooms are air conditioned.

Kindondo made me and my 6 year old daughter feel completely at home. The staff is amazing and you can tell management takes good care of them (important to me).... Food was delisious and at the same time simple and fresh. Perfect balance with activity, relaxation and fitness. Horsebackridning on the beach, snorkeling for beautiful corals, kayaking, visiting a national reserve with elephants, girafs, buffalo, waterfalls, sunset views and much more. The family that owns Kinindo even built a Health center in the area to contribute to the people in the village. We will without doubt return, soon..... Loved it all Thanks to Ida, Filip, Anna; Vincent, Lucas, Andrew etc etc

Kinondo Kwetu is a quirky, relatively small, African themed beach retreat. A good place to get away from the hustle and bustle, though perhaps best suited to adults or those with quite young children, rather than families with active youngsters seeking a sea & beach holiday experience.

Whilst Kinondo Kwetu is lovely in many respects, with pleasant service, an excellent main swimming pool, quite good, though not exceptional food and drinks and is peaceful and relaxing, the beach has a real drawback. There is a reef all along it. This means that swimming from the beach is not the wonderful Indian Ocean experience that it usually is at premium priced boutique hotels and retreats on the east coast of Kenya. To swim one has to either walk across a shelf of reef or down a long concrete causeway that is slippery in places and slightly rough in others. This is not ideal for a beach experience, preventing one from running into the sea or frolicking in the surf.

The food that is served from the menu, that is listed, in the entrance, daily ahead of lunch and dinner, is good though limited and not particularly special. A starter at one lunch was “mini pizza”. Guests can ask for alternatives, however there is no menu from which to select and unless an alternative has been arranged well in advance it can take quite a while to arrive if requested once seated.

The bar has a reasonable range of domestically produced spirits that are included on an inclusive package. There is a limited range of imported spirits that are charged for. Given the premium nature of Kinondo Kwetu and the relatively high price to stay one might reasonably expect that by now all would be inclusive. The wines served, as part of the inclusive package, are reasonable but perhaps should be upgraded as they are nothing special.

The cottages are pleasant in a shabby chic manner. The beds are comfortable, quite high (stool provided to assist one to get onto the bed) 4 posters, with good mosquito nets.

The verandas on the cottages are great, being well equipped with chairs, tables and day beds. The furniture and art are lovely, consisting of typically coastal Kenyan pieces.

The bathroom is absolutely in keeping with the Africa beach cottage theme. It is quaint, perfectly adequate though those unused to Africa might think it basic and old fashioned.

Kinondo Kwetu is an enjoyable place to stay. The rating of average rather, than very good, is driven by the beach/reef issue and the restricted menu options.
