Our Happy Place...

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jan 8, 2012
Being originated from the Philippines but grew up in California I would never have thought such beautiful place exist just an hour away from Manila, Philippines. My Boyfriend and I wanted to get away from visiting family in the city and based on the location we knew this would be a good place to start planning our vacation. Although from most of the reviews the description on the location and the place was far fetched from what we have experienced, but before planning on this type of an adventure you must know what type of getaway you are planning for. The van ride from the airport to the resort is about 30 min. but with the amazing and lavish landscape of the island the time flies by. Once you get to the resort you are welcomed by some welcome drinks and a cold towel. Our trip was in Late November this is when the humidity is at decent percentage... you will definitely enjoy "paradise" during this time of year. All of the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and keep in mind you're on vacation and should return the same courtesy. Also the staff likes to respect your privacy so "you need to ask for what you want" and the staff will be more than willing to accommodate your needs. The city is about 15 min away on a shuttle. The resort offers one shuttle a day to the city and back at no charge. You can also rent your own personal van and driver at your own expense which is about 1,500 pesos (not bad), but there's also other ways to get around town which is a Tricycle and getting one in front of the main gate could take a while since this Resort is minutes away from their busy city. If you decide to take the tours which will take a day for each tour... we highly recommend the to do the Coron Island Hopping tour and Malcapuya Island. I don't suggest doing the package deals if you would like to just be on your own pace because you will be rushed and wont be able to enjoy your tour and the surroundings. Doing a tour a day is best way and plan it with the resort so you could get the experience unlike no other. We were lucky enough for the Three man crew we had showing us their back yard. The resort has one of the best tour guide in town name Jerrick. He is a very hospitable and attentive guide! he will show paradise at its best! his crew are also awesome. We're the ultimate beach couple and the Malcapuya Beach is by far the most beautiful beach we have ever seen. We liked it so much we visited it 2 days in a row. Hands down it's a MUST SEE! We highly recommend to bring your own lunch to the tours which can also be provided through the resort and make sure to pack a 6-pack of beer, sodas, and water along for your enjoyment. Your awesome tour guide Jerrick will pack the cooler to your needs. Make sure you bring credit cards and enough cash because it's a hassle to get your money exchanged. We had breakfast and dinner at the "Pavilion" (at the resort) our hats go off to the Chef, but keep in mind if you do plan on having a late meal at the "pavilion" give a day notice so that they will make sure they have it available. The resort has plenty of DVD's in stock that covers all of your likings. This Resort is such a quite place... a nature's place... and not at all on the party scene place, but keep in mind if you do decide on having night out at the city there's more than enough places to seek some sort of entertainment and it's just less than 15 minutes away. We also advised to bring your own snorkeling gear and if you are more on the advanced side take the scuba tour and explore the bay and witness it's history underneath the ocean that date backs to WWII. By far are trip was relaxing and got to see one if the most beautiful places on earth. Hats off and thanks to all the staff and friends we met along the way for a once in a life time experience. This is a must do for us again! We did a lot of things that tourist don't get to do because we were not afraid to ask. (FYI)

This place was a lovely escape from the hustle and bustle of Makati, particularly as I was travelling on my own. There is a great walk up the hill for amazing views of Coron, I went at about 3pm but I imagine it would be beautiful for a sunset.

Foodwise they start you out with a hearty breakfast that keeps you going over lunch and the dinners are nice, though it wasn't the best food I had on the Philippines trip.

The only thing I would say is that it is a bit far from the town itself. I knew that it wasn't on the beach front but I guess I under estimated the distance. once you're back in the resort in the evening there isn't a lot to do, though that was just what I needed on this particular trip - though I think it is worth mentioning.

All in all I would recommend.

(A quick note - I actually travelled March 2010 but there was no option for that on TA).

Stayed for 3 nights in Dec 2011 as we wanted to be in Coron but the town was fully booked as we had left it too late. The resort is about 10-15 mins out of town, but it is quite easy to get into town in the morning and back in the early evening and throughout the day with the free shuttle.

We found our room very nice and clean, with all modern amenities which was great after a week of no aircon or hot showers on a smaller island resort. we had a tv and fridge, and although there was no tv connection, the reception provided a range of video cds. THere was satellite tv at the bar and free wifi near the restaurant.

The restaurant area and pool area were both nice, but we found the food quality not quite right. Again, after a week of eating very nice food at our prior accommodation, it seemed a bit hit and miss. Due to the location of the resort (yes it is a resort, not a B&B/Inn), some might feel restricted to only eating at the resort. Despite this, the mango and banana smoothies were very nice.

The resort offers a number of tours, which for ease we did rather than through operators in the town. I would recommend the Coron Island day of beaches and snorkelling, however you may be able to get it cheaper in the town through a tour company or with the boat directly. The same can probably also be said about the range of options available by providers in the town.

We enjoyed this accommodation, the staff were friendly and helpful and it was easy to get to and from town. The next step for this resort is to improve the food.

On a recent trip to Coron, my friends and I stayed in different resorts due to conflicting skeds and reservations. I was in Busuanga Island Paradise alone and enjoyed it for the most part. First, they manage your expectations by saying early on that they are a forest resort and not a beach-front one. I was given a casita, and while it is quite spacious, it had a musty, woodsy scent similar to when you enter an old, antique house in the province. The bathroom was very clean but it's already showing its 5+ years of age in the fixtures and peeling walls (a good coat of paint could help). Their food is good - big servings, enough for 2-3 people. But the strength of BIP is not with their facilities but on their people. Their service is so personalized and honest - and if only for this, it would make you want to consider coming back. Everyone from Trini and the girls at the Reception area; Willy, the able driver; Jerick my tour guide and the ladies at the Pavillion and snack bar all have the welfare of their customers in mind. Very good service from everyone!
If there's one concern I had, and its to no direct fault of theirs, there are just way too many insects crawling all over (but, they DID mention this is a forest...)! BIP is not for everyone - it is remote, very quiet and has none of the "party atmosphere" of other resorts. If you are looking for peace and quite - and this place has a LOT of that, then this is the perfect place for you.

We needed a place to relax and just marvel at the beauty of nature. We got it here. The best part of our stay is the friendly staff of BIP. I love Milan! thanks for making my breakfast every morning. To Jac and Triny for always attending to our request. And to the 2 drivers who always come to pick us up in town when we go on our trips. Palawan is a nice place but it is made even more special by the staff in BIP.

Been here in BIP last August 2010. We had our first honeymoon as newlyweds in this romantic paradise. it was a memorable experience for us. We really enjoyed the place and we're lucky that we're almost alone there that time because on our 2nd day the last guests left already. the pool was nice and all the staff, they are very friendly, and i could feel the sincerity of their smiles. it is a place for couples or family who want to enjoy the nature and to have some privacy away from the city. thanks to trini and bhok, jeric, also to their tita-head cook (very friendly, sorry i forgot her name), the food was great and really delicious especially the crab omelette. i admit they need more training when it comes to service but i am glad and satisfied that time because knowing they are natives of the place (Palawan) but they have this potential and i love their sincerity to their guest. You would feel it when you see visit them. i've learned that real kindness and honesty comes from the heart and not from training. from my heart, i love the place and the staff. thank you so much for your service and we want to be there again soon. more power to BIP!
