Delighted Find in Santader

This review is for the property in the beach town of Santander, at the southern end of Cebu Island. My new bride and I were winging it - we had no reservations and intended to look at some of the resorts there and pick one. We stopped at Bona Villa first, and after checking out the rooms and main house, she said "we're staying here." I replied, "aren't we going to check the other places?" And she said "no, we're staying here!"

The next three days were among the most perfect of my recent years. We relaxed in the warm pool. Hand-fished with the fisherman in the morning. The incredibly attentive staff made us coffee in the main house as a cool breeze drifted through. We drank beers on the porch every evening, and enjoyed the strong air-conditioning rooms at night.

My wife even arranged for a massage one night, and she loved it.

The property is gorgeous. The staff attended our every need. I was blown away at the value.

Don't bother staying anywhere else but the Bonga Villa. It's AMAZING for the price.
Date of stay: July 2019
Room Tip: We enjoyed being the first unit - right by the main house, but all the rooms looked the same....

Hey this is place I need of help. during my stay we were the only guests. The pool was unfilled. Meals were brought from sister resort. But this place is nicely situated with lovely rooms and great views. Some upgrades needed. Not sure where this place is headed so call before you go.

Room tip: Check with front desk before considering a booking.

The resort's scenic view lies on their pool.

Their room concepts are villas with either duplex rooms or family rooms. Their rooms may be old but still it would do.

The resort also has a basketball court, volleyball court & a restaurant.

It may be rustic since its theme relates to antiques.

Stayed here Febr 2013 and booked a two story villa that had more than enough room for 4 of us, in fact we could probably have stayed 6 or 8 people. The rooms are very spacious and have a fantastic view of the sea and Negros. The furniture is somewhat run down as is the pool that looks better on pictures than it is in reality. The staff is very helpfull and friendly and offers the best massages we have ever had on the phillipines, amazing!

The location is only a 20min drive from the whalesharks and if you stay here its very convenient to go early in the morning at 6 and have these amazing animals almost all to yourself. Dont miss out on this its the most amazing thing you can do in the philipines! We regretted that we didnt go twice.

Bongavilla is quite close to the ferry to Negros and its worth going and spending a day. When you arrive on Negros do yourself the favor and walk a half mile down the beach to the right of the ferry dock. We met loads of very friendly local people and children. It was really a highlight. Dumagete is a typical poor and somewhat dirty overcrowded full of crap shops filipino town. The most interesting thing here we found was the fish market.

The nearby town of Santander on Cebu is located a 5 min drive from Bongavilla. Its very poor and only has one supermarket and a school, thats about it. We went and visited the school for a few hours and felt very very welcome. The children were very friendly, curious and eager to speak english. The teachers very open. If you have time this is a great thing to do to meet the local people.

In Bongavilla you get what you pay for, its not fancy but relatively cheap and spacious and its location is good for whaleshark and Negros trips. No good restaurants nearby but the one at the hotel is ok, the staff is very friendly. And do try those massages!

I was to visit the Philippines for the first time and needed somewhere to stay, Bongavilla Beach Resort & Spa was recommended to me. I made the booking. As we had considerable luggage with us for our 3 week vacation, transport was provided by the resort to pick us up at Mactan Internatiional Airport on our arrival to take us to Bongavilla Beach Resort which was a 3 and a half hour drive. The transport was very comfortable and air conditioned. The driver kindly stopped for us en route for refreshments and a visit to a public convenience. Transport could also be provided for the return too. By the time we got to the resort we were made welcome and checked in. Our luggage were taken to our room. The upstairs of our accommodation had a dinning and living area, furnished with fridge, TV,and toilet, a balcony overlooking the pool and wonderful views of Negros Oriental across the strait. Downstairs was our bedroom, shower and toilet and air conditioned. From our room we walked onto a balcony with a stairway into the pool. The bedroom was clean, light and airy, the shower area was large with warm and cold water. Towels and toiletries were provided. We were shown a menu and gave the chef our orders of food and drink. It was around 5 pm when we arrived, by about 6:30 after having freshened ourselves up, we made our way to the dinning area where our table was laid and our meal and drinks served. On completion of our meal, orders were taken for our breakfast. Meals could be ordered on request. There was always a good choice on the menu and very tasty. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. We felt very much at home at Bonga Villa that we booked in there again this year and will be staying there again next year also. Bongavilla Beach Resort & Spa is filled with character, the surroundings tranquil with the chatter of birds and fishermen going about their fishing close by often greeting the guests with a friendly wave.its the sort of resort one can really relax and enjoy the peace and the natural surroundings..
