We wanted a quiet resort within a short distance of family living in the area. Cocobay Resort was a reasonable price with large rooms and some with a view of the lake (Vembanad). The drive from Cochin airport is long, around 2.5 hours. The resort is a few minutes off the main road and the approach was a little worrying. It's not giving off a great ambiance with old buildings. There is a car park for guests and to drop off. Then you have to take a small traditional canoe a few minutes to the jetty of the resort, which is a great and relaxing experience. Just bear this in mind if you are heading to the airport or away for an appointment!
The rooms were comfortable, spacious although quite basic. TV works well. A fridge is provided. Beds are large and comfortable. The bathroom is clean but basic. Hot water available any time. Power reliable and wifi was brilliant the whole stay.
There is an open air reception with wonderful staff. Nothing is too much trouble and they are always available on call. We used the restaurant every day and the staff were absolutely brilliant. The food is mainly south Indian, but there is a huge menu. Something for veg and non veg guests. We even mentioned a favourite dish and the chef was happy to provide this even though it wasn't on the menu. Breakfast is included in the price of the room.
The restaurant manager was so friendly and really efficient. Made the stay so much more enjoyable.
This resort had been closed by flooding in 2018, then COVID hit and it's only just reopened in 2023.
Thoroughly recommend this property and staff. This isn't a 5 star resort. But the price is fantastic for the level of service. The views over the lake are stunning. The pool is wonderful. And there are plenty of places in the grounds to relax and chill. Even eat outside if you wish. Especially if you want to watch the stunning sunsets!
My only recommendation to staff are to look at environmental policies. We don't need beds and towels changing daily. Even toiletries were refreshed every day. I think making something of the environmental aspects of this property would bring in more guests, although the resort seemed to be full most days. But with only about 20 rooms, it was never ever crowded.
