I have previously raved about this place, and yet the most recent visit was a complete disappointment!

We arrived to find that the Estate Drive was closed. Given the weather, this meant that we were therefore unable to use any of the activities located in the grounds. We decided to make our first stop the cafe....lucky we did given the rush/queue that came after us! (One of these days, the National Trust will work out how to do cafes!!!). We had 5 adults and 2 children; all the meals came out at different times, with the toasties after the sausage rolls had been finished! And as for the sausage rolls.....they came with a sweet corn and a beetroot pickle. Quite what had happened to the sweet cord pickle, I do not know, but if you can imagine buying a bag of corn for popping, and then accidentally using that cord to make a relish, you get an idea as to the consistency......

The Young Engineers house was....closed....apparently only open in the holidays....do the NT not know that some schools had the week either side of Easter as a holiday?

The house was as fascinating as ever.

I am lucky in that we were gifted lifetime membership of the NT. If I had been a fee-paying visitor, I would have been v v far from happy!!!!

What an amazing place. We visited on a cold wet day in April and were completely blown away by the house and grounds. Packed with history and views to die for there’s something here for everyone. The house is superb and was the first to be lit by electricity generated by water, there’s a hydraulic lift too. The grounds are massive and really spectacular.

A wonderful place to visit and well worth seeking out. Loads to do from walking around the house and buildings, to venturing around the grounds, even a 5k trek for the adventurous, or this can also be driven with parking spots around it if you prefer.

House has some great quirks, and shows it was built by someone well ahead of his time. Wonder what he would come up with now if still alive.

Spent the whole day here exploring the gardens and the house. It was beautiful! Highly recommend visiting for a day trip, especially with children as it is a really exciting, fun day out.

Amazing house! So much to see, admire and learn about whatever your interests. Helpful, friendly guides always on hand. The beautiful gardens are vast and will need many return visits to explore more fully. The cafes have a great choice of refreshments and there are plenty of picnic tables around too.
