We stayed here for 4 nights on honeymoon, there's no doubt this is one of the best hotels in Salina - the location is beautiful and most of the staff are very kind and helpful. We did not have a great experience but it was mostly the added extras that were the problem, the basics of this hotel (including the base level rooms) are solid and good value for money.

These are the things we didn't like:

- we booked an executive room which was €500pn, it was not very nice
- our room on the ground floor had ants everywhere. they were in our clothes, on the sofas, climbing up the furniture etc. but this could be a problem everywhere in the island so I'm not sure it's hotel specific.
- The extras: welcome bottle of prosecco with chef's pastries & fruits (€75) in the room on arrival. They forgot it , we called, and when it arrived there was no fruit and 3 bite-size cake/sweet each
- the massage was a strange experience, I had 2. The first one was on a bed that wasn't stable so whenever the masseuse put mild pressure on my body the table swayed...the 2nd one (deep tissue) was on a much better table but it was painful and despite me asking for the pressure to be lighter there were moments of genuine pain when she pressed to hard on my shoulder blade and femur. These massages cost €100+ each.
-we ate in the Michelin star restaurant and had the "5 plate" menu. The food was good but not exceptional, there are a few Michelin star restaurants we've tried in Sicily (we live here) and this one didn't wow us.

My main problem with this hotel was how they handled our issue with the room and the fact we were unhappy with the €500pn rate for the quality of the room. In my experience the mark of a really good hotel is how they handle issues and how they treat their customers afterwards. When we told them we weren't happy with our room - leaky shower, old bathroom - they were clearly unimpressed by US. We were very polite about the issue, no raised voices, no animosity on our side. They begrudgingly showed us other options and when they showed us a base level room which was lovely (nicer than the one we were in and half the price) they immediately said that if we wanted that room the rate would be kept at €500pn as that is what we were committed to regardless of whether we were happy or not. You can imagine how that made us feel... We did move to another room, in the same category (the one with ants, but we didn't have the energy to have another "difficult" conversation with them) and after that the reception staff barely acknowledged us, except to take our money on check-out barely saying a word.

It wasn't all negative:

What was good:
- the beds were comfortable, we slept very well
- the restaurant staff are exceptional, they helped us with advice of places to visit and recommended a private boat tour of the island which was the highlight of our trip.
- the common spaces: bar / restaurant / indoor lounge are beautiful and the outdoor spaces are beautifully maintained and have spectacular views.
- the swimming pool is nice, a good size, with good sun loungers and it wasn't too busy
- breakfast is delicious, the menu is varied with great sweet and savoury options made to order.

In summary, I personally would never stay there again, there are other lovely places on the island to try. But, if someone I knew were visiting Salina I would recommend Hotel Signum as a place to stay but I'd say go for a basic room because they're lovely and really good value for money for the type of hotel...just skip all the extras or wait until you're onsite to add anything to your package...

Room tip: pick an upper floor with a balcony or terrace for the view

Amazing place with a wonderful sea view. We only had an aperitif, the food and the drink were great and they were described by the waiters in detail. Great background music that together with the spectacular view of the island of Lipari gave serenity. Expensive but good for the experience you get there. Absolutely recommended if you find yourself on the island of Salina!

Great place in little village on the island and marvellous food, super terrace towards Stromboli, an active vulcano but slightly out of touch with costs, especially for the breakfast which is a la carte. One could easily spend €50 On a modest breakfast, where as round the corner in a cafe round the piazza you’ll get a feel for the island and have great breakfast for under € 10 . For example In a Country Where a good cup of coffee costs one euro the hotel charges € 5 ...
Lovely people running is and nice cold unheated pool.

Simple, refined, relaxed and effortless with attention to detail and impeccable service. It’s hard to strike a balance, very few hotels do and this is one of them. Run by a local family it has beautiful views, an excellent restaurant and simply furnished rooms with comfy beds in the local style. It feels authentic and a true “experience”. Highly recommended.
