Heywood's beach is the beach for the Almond Beach resort, and another resort I don't know the name of. There is a lifeguard station with apparently attentive staff, and the jetski operators come and go. There is no public access to the facilities and the loungers etc. are for resort guests only (you can usually get away with washing your feet in their little shower). We just took a beach towel and a cooler when we went there and sat on the slope above high tide. The reefs near in to Heywood's are poor with only a few fish but the swimming is good. However, if you walk further on to Port St. Charles (another 750 m or so), there is a healthy reef near shore right at the end of the beach as far as you can walk. This is the west coast of Barbados so there is little shade on the beach after 11 am or so.

Best to look where others are swimming as some areas are to rocky to walk in. There are lots of guys offering all sorts of water sports, prices are reasonable. lots of crabs walking along the sand and in the rocks. Great areas for snorkelling. can walk for a long time, lovely clean beach and clear waters.

We loved this beach area as it was calm and relaxing. It had beautiful sand and ample parking. We spent lots of time at this beach.

Lots of space to spread out and sit under the shade of trees. Good snorkeling. Watch out for the coral though!
