We spent 5 days at Southern Palms with 4 other couples. We had done a lot of research ahead of time and picked Southern Palms for the beautiful beach and the photos of the rooms. The beach was beautiful! However, the room was a huge disappointment. We had spent the money to splurge on a room with an ocean view. Because they put us in a room on the first floor, your ocean view was through the pool area and some shrubbery. The room itself was no bigger or better than a motel room in the U.S. and for that we paid $400/night! In addition, in order to use the safe in our room, we paid an additional $3.00/day and it stopped working twice so we had to call maintenance. I don't think I've ever stayed in a room where you paid to use the safe. Our friends who opted for rooms without ocean views had really small rooms and a number of the electrical outlets didn't work for charging devices. The bathrooms were old and small. The restaurant food was okay but overpriced. The lunch was probably the best. The breakfast buffet and barbecue buffet were way too expensive for what you received. BUT the worst part of staying there was the noise from across the road where there were loud entertainers who didn't stop until midnight some nights and 2am other nights. The bathroom vents and our door let the sound in like they we singing outside our room. Ear plugs, turning up the A/C, nothing prevented that noise from interfering with our sleep! I understand from our friends that the garden facing rooms did not have this issue. However, I wish that I had read this on TA because I would not have booked this hotel. And I would definitely not return to Southern Palms. I'm still rather mystified by all of the great reviews.

Room tip: If you want an ocean view, don't stay on the 1st floor

We just returned from a week's stay January 2023 and are very please with our visit. We stayed in room 314 and had a great view of the sea. The stairs were challenging with luggage, but it is worth the view. The room was small but it sufficed. The room did not have a kitchenette as advertised. There was a mini fridge and a kettle with no stove or hot plate. The bed was old and very uncomfortable. The outlet in the bathroom did not work. There was no table to sit and eat or do anything else at. We had a lovely balcony with a table and chairs.

The food and drinks were good, but you pay resort prices. It is best to make a quick stop at a mini mart to pick up water and snacks. We had the breakfast buffet several times and it was good. We went to the BBQ buffet and had a great time and the food was really delicious. We also went to the afternoon tea, happy hour and the rum punch party. Plenty of local restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Good food and drinks at reasonable prices.

The hotel is directly on Dover Beach and it is beautiful. We walked the beach each morning. The waves were rough during our visit which limited to a certain extent our time in the water. From our balcony, we saw turtles bobbing their heads all day. If you make it our past the rough waves you get to some calmer water and can see the turtles. The only negative thing about the beach is that there are no umbrellas available. The next resort over does have lounge chairs and umbrellas to rent for $20 US. From the beach we ordered food and drinks from our hotel as well as the neighboring hotel. All food and drinks were excellet but pricey. Great days at the beach!

Overall our stay was fantastic and could not have asked for nicer staff or a better location for our visit. We certainly did all we wanted to do and more! Will definitley return to Southern Palms!

Stayed in St Lawrence Gap several times, but first time here. Wonderful setting, but the room we were allocated was disappointing. A bit shabby and lacking in facilities compared to where we have stayed previously. It was also supposed to be an upgrade. I always assume that the room you are allocated is the best one available in that category for the duration of your stay, but I am unsure this time. I did have an opportunity to discuss this with one of the hotels directors at the Rum Punch cocktail party, but there was no real effort to appease. Lovely comfortable bedding.
Why 3/5? The room simply wasn’t good enough for the money. It could have got 5/5 . The location is fabulous. It’s on a terrific stretch of Dover beach handy for bars and restaurants. Grounds are lovely and well maintained. Their own restaurant is very good. Staff are all great. Loads of sunbeds scattered around the complex and on the beach. Charge for some extras a little irritating (safe, late checkout) particularly when other guests tell you they aren’t being charged.
Would consider staying again. Yes, but I’d avoid the room we had (107), ask for a room that isn’t ground level. Also need to check exactly what facilities are in the room. We only had tea/coffee facilities 2 mugs, 2 glasses and a fridge.

Room tip: Avoid room 107. Room facilities vary even in the same category. Check at booking and on arrival to avoid disappointment.

Lovely buffet and steel band here on a Sunday. Shepherds pie, chicken pie and beef pie. Decent soup.
Macaroni pie and roast lamb.
Soup was delicious and a reasonably selection of deserts.
$90 bbd each and a wonderful atmosphere. Would definitely recommend
