Stayed in St Lawrence Gap several times, but first time here. Wonderful setting, but the room we were allocated was disappointing. A bit shabby and lacking in facilities compared to where we have stayed previously. It was also supposed to be an upgrade. I always assume that the room you are allocated is the best one available in that category for the duration of your stay, but I am unsure this time. I did have an opportunity to discuss this with one of the hotels directors at the Rum Punch cocktail party, but there was no real effort to appease. Lovely comfortable bedding.
Why 3/5? The room simply wasn’t good enough for the money. It could have got 5/5 . The location is fabulous. It’s on a terrific stretch of Dover beach handy for bars and restaurants. Grounds are lovely and well maintained. Their own restaurant is very good. Staff are all great. Loads of sunbeds scattered around the complex and on the beach. Charge for some extras a little irritating (safe, late checkout) particularly when other guests tell you they aren’t being charged.
Would consider staying again. Yes, but I’d avoid the room we had (107), ask for a room that isn’t ground level. Also need to check exactly what facilities are in the room. We only had tea/coffee facilities 2 mugs, 2 glasses and a fridge.
