We were back in Tomsk and in Gogol hotel. Very friendly receptionist, room clean and fresh. Breakfast with very nice choice of local specialities and western buffet and specially hot cooked vegetables

Pros:
Receptionist spoke good English and was very helpful.
Good-sized room with big windows.
Central location.
Cons:
No lift. We were on the 4th floor and it was a pain to have to carry heavy suitcases down the stairs, and to have to go back down to reception when the room key didn't work.
Breakfast eggs and coffee not prepared to order as it was at most of the other hotels (all lower priced) we stayed in. (There was a good selection of pre-prepared food available though).
The price, at 5600 roubles for one night was by far the highest we paid, much higher than the Mercure in Moscow for example.

Wonderful, courteous staff who helped make our stay that much nicer. (We arrived after a two night train trip so the early check I was very appreciated!) A superb buffet breakfast that helped give us more insights into Russian cuisine.
Then there was the room. The first time we have ever stayed in a room with a spa bath AND a sauna.
It really made our stay in Tomsk!
We would place our stay at the Gogol amongst the top five hotels we have ever stayed in!
We cannot recommend the Gogol highly enough!

This is the sort of hotel we love but seldom find. Comfortable, friendly and not pretentious with good creature comforts. It is well located in Tomsk, easy to walk to most places of interest to a tourist and for anywhere else they will call you a very inexpensive taxi. The staff (all women) are charming speak good English and seem to naturally know how to give good customer service - still something of a rarity in Russia even in fancier establishments. The rooms are large, modern and comfortable, the bathroom rather small but with all you need within. Everything is clean and fresh. Be aware that there is no lift so if you have more luggage than you want to drag upstairs request a ground floor room when booking. The breakfast is very good with a wide choice in the buffet. Like all hotels, there were a few minor things that could be better but none of them detracted from the pleasure of staying here. Highly recommended.

The first pleasant surprise of this independent hotel is the warm welcome of the staff who speaks perfect English. The rooms are spacious and have a modern look. The breakfast is served in a nice room and is rather extensive considering the small size of the hotel. It is located in a quiet street with very nice old wooden houses nearby (that's the main attraction of the city) and close to the city center. The only minor disadvantage is the absence of lift. I don't care but it can be a problem for older people or for those having heavy luggage.

Room tip: First or second floor if you don't like walking stairs
