This hotel is overpriced for normal tourist. No TV, no refrigerator, no phone and no internet in the room. Staff is very nice. Management interacts nice with guests, but not when you are not using their scuba diving services. We really felt we did not belong there. Place is nice but remote. We expected a more luxurious resort for the price we paid. Maybe had to check it out better before booking it.

Thank you for your review, although we are sorry to read that we did not meet your requirements. The Blue Orchid resort is known for its more remote location and the outdoor activities that we organize within this area. Therefore, we strive to make people enjoy the outdoors and attach less value to things like tv’s or phones in the rooms. Social interaction is a part that we consider as very important to ensure the quality, needs, and expectations of all our guests. We’re always in for a drink, a laugh or a good chat but some do come for the quietness and peace. Next time that you will visit Moalboal, just come and stay with us a little bit longer than just one night and experience the real Blue Orchid Family Experience. I'll bet, you’ll love it!!

The resort had an awesome vibe! Everyone talks to each other and shares their experiences of the activities they did; makes planning your day easier. Bill, the manager, was an awesome host and really made our stay worthwhile. He created a fun atmosphere and was extremely accomodating. Scuba diving just off the resort was safe with loads of corals and marine life. We also met the owner, Michael, who was very friendly and hospitable. The rooms are large with great views and the food menu was filled with options to cater for all. Definitely worth staying here! **TIP: Book the activities directly at the resort and not through other companies. You'll be in much smaller groups (2 - 4 people compared to 10 - 15 people). Do the CANYONEERING. This was such an experience. Also, the Sardine Run is only a 7 minute motor bike ride (you can hire this at the resort).

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views.

Hi Shailen, thank you for your fantastic review of The Blue Orchid Resort! We're glad you had such a good stay with us and liked the social atmosphere here, we really enjoyed getting to know you, too. We agree that the canyoneering is an awesome trip, and the small group sizes make the experience even more special. It sounds like you really made the most of your trip, and we would love to see you back here in the future for more adventure activities and fun times in the resort. All the best!

If you want to get away from people, traffic, television, noise, etc., and you want to hear the sounds of the ocean and have to walk carefully because there are so many hermit crabs on the ground, then Blue Orchid is the place.

Bill was a fantastic host. Super friendly, funny, and engaging. Unfortunately, we only booked three nights there. We wanted to stay longer, and Bill thought he had a solution, but it didn’t work out (too full!). When he told us he wouldn’t have room, he offered us the newly-renovated honeymoon suite for our last two days. It was a generous surprise and an amazing suite. It had a massive upper floor balcony with sweeping ocean and jungle views, huge bathroom and bedroom, semi-open living area with TV, sofa, and chairs, with a 20 ft tall thatched roof. It even had a ping pong table and something I’ve never seen in a hotel before – – a hanging punching bag! So cool!

The swimming pool and the bar are open 24 hours a day. Bill seems to run the resort like a place for his friends to hang out. There aren’t a bunch of rules and regulations, you’re supposed to behave like an adult and respect the grounds and your fellow lodgers. Everyone I met was super chill, so you could either hang out and talk with Bill, Michelle, or other guests, or go off and be on your own. Plenty of spots for privacy on the property.

Speaking of the property, it is the last in line of three or four nice resorts. If you drive there by yourself, you might think you’re lost… The last lane that you turn on to get to the property has a sign that says something about private property. Ignore it. That is not for the road, that is for the property along the road. Turn down the lane and keep going. You’ll pass a couple of huge humps in the road. We weren’t sure that our rental car had enough clearance to go over the bumps, but it was fine. This is definitely off the beaten path…

The food was really good. We arrived late on the first night, I called ahead. The kitchen was closing soon, but Bill had them whip us up a couple of dishes for when we arrived an hour later. That was really thoughtful… And delicious! One small suggestion for the kitchen… They serve fresh tuna. Next time, I’d like to have it just seared instead of cooked :-). Would be a good idea to ask the guest how they want it cooked. Portions of everything we’re very generous.

The normal rooms were super clean, spartan, with no TVs or telephones. This was perfectly fine. As I sit on my balcony in another resort now, I can hear the neighbors listening to an NBA basketball game. Not exactly the sounds of paradise…

The property offers many diving services. The sea in front of the property is filled with coral. You can snorkel directly from the property, but be careful not to damage the coral in any way. There is also a walkway that you can take to get into deeper water and snorkel from there. We also walked down the beach and found someone who could take us out for snorkeling for a few hours for 1500 pesos.

The bed was super comfortable and had a mosquito net which worked very well - or there were no mosquitoes around - because I never got a single bite.

If I ever come back to Cebu, I will stay here. And I still owe Bill a ukulele performance and tuning session :-)

A couple of notes…

1. Don’t get a SMART SIM card for your phone!!!! It will work at the airport, but nowhere else. You will be disappointed. When you call customer support, they will tell you that they will give you a response in 10 business days to your problem. Nice…. And you can’t apply for a refund until after your subscription. Ends. They basically steal your money. Get Global.

2. Almost everything requires cash in the Philippines, including hotels. And of course, none of the hotels have safes. It’s not easy to find places to get money. The best thing to do is find a 7-11 in the city centers. There’s usually an ATM nearby.

3. We came at the end of September, which is the rainiest season. If you look at the weather forecast for Cebu, it will show rain almost every day. But it is a big island, so it’s likely to rain somewhere. Maybe we were lucky, but when it rained, it was usually very brief, not a major thunderstorm. The weather did not interfere with our vacation at all. In fact, being a little overcast kept things cooler. When the sun came out, it was pretty hot.

A very quiet, peaceful small resort. The rooms are functional and clean (hot shower, AC, comfy bed with mosquito net). The rooms have sea views. The pool is lovely. The food was very good. There was a decent drink menu. The diving staff were excellent - friendly, knowledgeable and well organised. The diving was very good. Great visibility, lovely coral and lots of turtles. The dives are all very close to the resort. I would recommend this hotel and would happily return. Great diving, great ambience, and good food.
