Stayed here for 2 nights in March to try out our new folding camper. The site is really nice. There are quite a few areas to choose from to pitch. When we were there it was almost completely caravans. I guess more tents will be present once the better weather comes. The toilets and showers are very good. There were only two of each in each of the two blocks, but we never saw anyone else in them. The site is a short walk into Osmotherly itself where you will find three pubs which all serve food.
The best thing for us was the kids playground. There are two fairly simple playgrounds connected by a bridge over a stream surrounded by woodland. Our kids played for hours and we were close enough to it to keep an eye on them.
The staff are very friendly and helpful too. All in all a very good stay.

Great site, not too big, with great location for family walks, toilets and shower lovely and clean. Shop very basic just the essentials really. Kids loved the small river and parks. The mill also does food but as we went at end of season food had ended. Fantastic fish and chips from the village as short walk away.

We stayed in the Cottage that is attached to the Caravan Park for a surprise 50th Birthday weekend. It was exactly as described when booking. The family room with the pool table was a huge hit with the whole family which was 6xadults and 2xteenagers. The cottage was everything and more than I expected, beautifully decorated and the fire we had each night just added to the specialness of the occasion. We were all comfortable during our 3 night stay, with plenty of room for everyone. The village of Osmotherley was lovely and the people in the pubs and village shop were warm and welcoming. Will definitely book again in the future.

Visited the site a few months ago and stayed near the kids play area. Was a little noisy which was to be expected. On this visit we asked if we could be near the statics out the way. Our pitch was perfect. Right next to the statics. No noise.

Read some reviews regarding the staff being unfriendly! Well I can say the staff were fab, all friendly, helpful and polite.

Cedar Shower block very clean and has under floor heating. The whole park was clean and tidy. Walked the dog after 10pm and it's silent. Wardens make sure if that. Wardens also enforce the rules. Good practice in my opinion.

Great location if u have a dog or like walking as Cod Beck is ten minutes away.

Only negative is the phone reception is poor. But that's not always a bad thing.

We will be returning again soon.

This site is a bit expensive but that may be because it charges the same for tents and tourers alike .... and we were in a tent. I didn't like the artificial grassed hard standing that we had to camp on as we couldn't get some pegs in it which we needed to as the hard standing was right in the centre of the pitch; and it seems to retain water moreso than a grass equivalent. Further, regretably pitches weren't overly generous in size. And finally, whilst I'm moaning, there are few 'views' (vistas) from the site itself - you have to walk off it to get access to such ... but there is a very pleasant rhythmic brook that runs through it which is excellent for chilling beer !!

You also have to pay 20p per ice block to be put in the freezer - it struck me as a little mercenary and, in light of what some other sites offer, outdated. And there was also a relatively hefty charge for the internet in my opinion (see remarks for ice block freezing charge above). If you're paying in excess of £200 for a week's camping then £1.40 extra for freezer block freezing seems a little OTT. And for me at least the same applies for internet access....which is per item to access such and not per pitch.

Toilet blocks were functional with the one furthest away from the entrance perhaps better as you don't have to press the button on the shower every 20-30 secs or so for hot water. The option of a bath at the a cost of £1 was also a nice option - but be aware some people take no notice of the engaged sign on the door and just force the door open - so put the mop bucket against it or something similar AND don't be afraid to shout - 'ENGAGED !!' The additional advantage of the bath is that you have a large private, toiletted area in which to bathe, change etc and the underfloor heating is good - as is the hot water for the bath - a nice treat if you have the time - lol.

The drying room in the laundry area (FREE) was a nice addition and handy in the circs. I also liked the co-located tourist info area with lots of leaflets on many attractions in the area and beyond.

All in all we don't plan to visit this site again.

Dear Steve
Thanks for your review.

We try really hard to offer the best facilities that we can. We know that our guests will compare what we offer with other places. To make sure guests choose Cote Ghyll we offer a choice of Hardstanding, Grass or Astroturf pitches (as well as holiday home and holiday cottage rentals). Our pitches are a generous 10M wide (min) and we have a few extra large plots for those who require them.

Our price is a little more than average but we think most people are prepared to pay a little more for a 5 star site with excellent facilities.

Regarding the lock on the bathroom door, I guess you didn't notice the sliding bolt which locks the door from inside the room?

Thanks again, Jon Hill
