It is a property that apparently has 300 years of heritage. Red oxide flooring, simple electrical fixtures and solid wood furniture - it definitely reminds you of an era gone by. The room we took was spacious, and even the extra bed that we had requested for my son was almost a queen bed, unlike the typical foldable single beds provided in other hotels. All basic amenities were available like TV, kettle, AC and hot water throughout the day. It is located in a small lane that is typical of central Puducherry but the good thing is that it is one of the quieter lanes and you can find a decent car parking spot on the street near the hotel at all times. The promenade and shopping areas are within a 1-2km range, so they are walkable.
The age of the property does show up here and there so you might have to tussle a bit with a bathroom door latch or a slightly shaky wardrobe, but i would consider these as one of the charms of the place. What one needs to realize is that they have tried to retain as much of the old world stuff as possible and have not done extensive renovations/modernizations, so, if you are expecting the overall ambience to be heritage but everything else to be modern and chic, then this is not the place for you.
The property is beautifully maintained and a big shout out for the warm and excellent hospitality and service. Right from the GM, Mr.Nagaraj, who was super responsive for arranging the booking at best rates, to the various managers in the property who worked in shifts (i am forgetting the name of the lady, Selvi, i think, Kalai, and others) were simply one of the best hosts i have experienced. They provided personal attention and were always ready to help.
The restaurants are not functional in this property due to Covid, however, they provide sumptuous South Indian and Continental breakfast options in the morning. They also allow you to order in food using Zomato or Swiggy. They also arranged for a Scooter on hire, which is a good option to explore the sights of the city. They have a nice sit-out outside each room where you can enjoy a peaceful meal to the sounds of chirping birds.
Overall, i would highly recommend this place for its old world charm, service, hospitality and proximity to the Promenade and dining places in the city
