It's a wonderful place with many picnic and photo opportunities. Suitable for a nice refreshing dip in the summer. Lots of wonderful view-point close to the dam.
Oh and grilled fish in restaurants in Dukan town is to die for!

From a high view point, the lake of Dokan is beautiful and breath taking, as much of the Kurdistan nature is. However, once you get closer by, the landscaping around the lake is not that inviting. Basically hard rock, no grass and practically no shade. At one or two place shading had been erected, but not maintained and now in state of repairs.
There is a good hotel at its side, with an outside pool,, which makes for good relaxing and swimming.

This is a popular place for people to escape the city and relax in a relatively quiet atmosphere in the area of a large lake and swim and engage in various watersports, especially during the summer when the temperature soars.

If you like seafood (Fish) and would like to enjoy swimming far from the city, Dukan is a right place to go.

Beautiful lake nestled under the Sara Mountain. Many people from Sulaymaniyah and Erbil go there on the weekends for picnic and sightseeing. There are restaurants near the river serving masgoof. The lake is dammed so water is calm with occasional speed boat. It's a great place to spend the day on weekends. It's about 40 minutes from Suli and 1.5 hour from Erbil.
