Owner description: Spectacular scenery, gourmet food and warm rural hospitality – the Tora Coastal Walk is the best-loved privately run walk in New Zealand. This exhilarating three-day walk takes you to private hill-country farms, river valleys, native bush, hilltop ridges and the magnificent Tora coastline – and to complete each day, comfortable and stylish rural accommodation and delicious food, carefully prepared with fresh local ingredients by the people who own and farm the land. The walk includes all accommodation, meals, maps, and access to the track. Your luggage is transported each day, so you don't have to carry it with you. One of the best things about the Tora Coastal Walk is its strictly limited numbers. Only 14 people a day are allowed on the one-way track, leaving you free to walk uninterrupted by two-way traffic. Just 30 minutes from Martinborough Wine Village.

The Tora Coastal Walk was really great - thoroughly enjoyed everything. The scenery was interesting, particularly the bush on the third day and the coast (we saw seals at the beach). It was great to visit such a remote part of NZ.
All the accommodation was lovely and each spot had it's own charm (comfortable beds too!)
The main highlight for me was the food (not the usual thing you think of when you are going on a 3 day walk). All the meals were fabulous (venison, roast lamb, chicken curry, tasty salads) and the homemade baking (lemon tart, banana cake, lemon cake, ginger crunch and more) was delicious!
We were a group of 4 women walking the trail together. It was really great to meet the 2 other groups also completing the trail with us. We all enjoyed chatting, eating and drinking together in the evenings.
Thanks to the Elworthy and Bargh families for sharing their farms with us.

Overall, a fantastic experience - a really memorable trip!

PS - I can highly recommend adding on some time in Martinborough to your trip (biking around the vineyards is lots of fun).

I had always done it the hard way- carrying pack and food!
This was a treat. Great food.
Jenny and Kiri are warm and generous hosts. They really know how to do it.
Will recommend far and wide Kiri and Jenny.
Thanks so much for a great three days.
Glen

A wonderful weekend with a group of 14 girlfriends! March was a great time to go as not too hot. The three days takes you over rural sheep country to the southeastern coast of the North Island. Some regenerating native bush on day three. What this walk lacks in scenery it more than makes up for in the wonderful hospitality of the hosts, the cosy accommodation and the delicious and abundant food. The walk is not too difficult, some short and steep climbs, but decent trail shoes would be better than trainers as the clay terrain can be slippery.

14 of us did the Tora Coastal Walk and thoroughly enjoyed it. The accommodation was fantastic, the food was amazing and plenty of it ! Walking, talking, drinking, eating with spectacular views. A wonderful way to spend a long weekend with friends. Bring good hiking shoes or boots because regular trainers don't really cut it. I took walking sticks which were handy in some spots. Bring plastic bags for dirty clothes and maybe some small containers to carry leftovers from beautiful dinners (not that that happened often!)

Hi Lisel, thanks so much for your feedback, so happy to hear you had a fantastic time. Thanks too for the feedback on hiking shoes. You're right. At certain times of the year good cross trainers can be fine, but does depend on what the weather has been like too. Definitely preferable to bring hiking shoes or boots if you can. Thanks again, take care and all the best.

Four of us did this 3 day Tora walking experience, we were grouped with 5 other really great people. It was a lot of fun and although the first day was wet it didn't matter, the accommodation and the food was top notch and the hosts very kind and interesting and the scenery stunning. Would highly recommend this walking experience.
