Exceptional food lots of choice including other restaurants. Very helpful and attentive staff. Lovely room. Some building works going on. I’m told bringing this hotel up from 4 to 5 star. This was not a cause for concern just moved to another pool area. Plenty going on. Would certainly book another holiday at this super hotel

This complex is enormous. The facilities include eight pools, gyms,a diving centre,,cinema snack bar etc. however big is not always beautiful. In fact we spoke to several couples who had asked to be re-located because they were too far from the main building. We stayed put but regretted it because for 3 mornings in a row we had no hot water in the morning,Apparently it does not reach the outbuildings until after 8-o-clock, The Piano Bar should be the centrepiece of the whole thing. It is an enormous room, well furnished with armchairs, sofas, tables and chairs.There. is a large L-shaped bar and ample servers.Unfortunately the usual deadbeats congregate round the bar, and stay there. Consequently by mid-evening, you cannot see the bar, let alone servers who may be free. Removing the barstools and making people sit down like adults would be a benefit. My partner, being a seafood fan, loved the cuisine..I did not. There were anomalies, like no-one being available to make omelettes by 08.10 despite the restaurant opening at 7.30. One evening the only cooked vegetable available was broccoli, and that did not last long.

Room Tip: Unless you are prepared to walk /use lifts, do not choose on of the outlying blocks.

First of all I would say we are reviewing this hotel as guests on the privilege package from beginning to end. Our overall experience was very good but as always there were a few things which could make the experience even better. In our case the full privilege package cost half as much as the holiday again. The hotel is very spacious and has a very expansive lobby area. The hotel and grounds are on several different levels but we saw several people on mobility scooters and walking frames so this did not seem to be much of a problem. For those who like walking/jogging there is a long promenade which runs at the back of the hotel leading to Playa Blanca and the new marina; about an hours walk in total, 45 mins to the old harbour, passing several other hotels and coffee stops. The hotel has several pools and entertainment areas so it is possible to choose the most appropriate area for yourself. At one end is the kiddies pool and at the other end of the complex an adults pool, in between is a pool with music and the animation team and next to that an even larger pool that floats the much photographed boat. In our experience all this worked very well with more than enough sunbeds and parasols for everyone, you could turn up at anytime of the day and find a spot with a sunbed. One of the smaller pools is heated during the winter months. As I said at the beginning there is always room for improvement and during our stay we never witnessed any poolside waiter service so if you liked a few drinks you either had to position yourself close to the snack bar or enjoy a short stroll. The snack bar/drinks bar located poolside was great.....snacks of burgers, chips, pizza, hot dogs, sandwiches, cake, yoghurt, fruit etc etc were always available on a serve yourself basis, coffee and drinks were served by a very friendly capable team. The snack bar also serves as the location for one of three themed a la carte restaurants on site....American theme, Asian and Italian. For privilege package guests they have the El Volcan restaurant available for a la carte breakfast and dinner, lunch is served a la carte in the Taibaba restaurant specifically for privilege guests. If you like coffee you will not be disappointed with Mikes coffee house, Irish, cappuccino, Tia Maria all served here but for some strange reason you have to pay for the cake even on all inclusive. The El Volcan restaurant, for privilege guests is great. the food is good and the service is great. Lead by Iker the manager nothing is too much trouble and for that alone the extra expense of the package was worth it. On that package you are also offered one night in each of the other three themed restaurants but for us the EL Volcan gave us the experience we wanted and we did not want to risk being disappointed by dining elsewhere. Once a week they offer a cabaret dining experience named "Oh Dinner". this was adults only and to be honest we were a little apprehensive. However it was very good....ok the food was not a gastronomic experience but as an overall evening worth going to. The privilege rooms seemed to be located "seaside" of the complex.....nicely appointed and recently refurbished. To be honest slightly less roomy than I had anticipated but perfectly adequate. 40"? wall mounted tv and glad to say free WiFi virtually everywhere on site. I never tested the speed but seemed adequate for most things. For all inc. privilege guests the mini bar was free; well stocked with crisps, chocs and mini cookies as well as soft drinks and spirits. We were also given one free visit to the spa although no treatments were included. Definitely worth a visit on a cloudy or windy day, towels, lockers and obligatory swim cap provided. Privilege guests also had the use of a privilege room. Settees, TV , help yourself bar, and couple of free to use desktop pc's. There is also an outside seating area. Personally I found it a bit soleless and it seemed to be used by people who wanted a quite space for playing cards. There is plenty of space in the evenings for everyone no matter what your taste. A large entertainment area with bar on one level for the usual forms of hotel entertainment and an equally large if not larger piano bar on the next floor. This has live music entertainment each night, singer, pianist or similar. Both are equally popular although families seemed to frequent the entertainments whilst the more leisurely of us frequented the piano bar. Prior to going I had read reviews about poor service at the bars especially in the evenings....not once did I experience this and was always served quickly and with a smile. Overall a very good experience, would definitely go back. Being really picky now It would have been nice when arriving at the hotel to have your luggage taken off you by the bell captain, offered a refreshing drink and towel. having said that in hindsight we saw a small area with orange juice on offer but when you first arrive somewhere these things are not always obvious, one very small area where service fell very slightly short of the high standards set elsewhere. One last picky point, it would have been nice if the hotel had offered a shuttle bus service down to the new marina even if only on market days which are wednesday and saturday however there is the fall back position of a bus stop to the town outside of the hotel.

Just returned from a weeks break at the Rubicon Palace and here are my thoughts and comments on our stay.

Firstly, I thought the check in was a bit slow. Yes we were offered champagne or orange juice but the process was slow, with each party being given a run though of the resort. The party in front of us in the queue must easily have taken longer than 10 minutes at the desk to check in.

On to the rooms..... the bedroom and bathroom were clean and well appointed, and had everything we needed - including a mini bar. However, even though we were all inclusive - there was a charge for all items out of the mini bar - unless we upgraded to 'Privilege' status. Needless to say - having paid for all inclusive - we didn't expect to have additional charges for drinks/snacks in the room.
This brings me on to the Privilege upgrade : I can understand if people want to pay extra for a suite with a sea view, instead of a normal room, I don't have a problem with that. What I do take issue with, is booking a 5* all inclusive holiday and then not being able to use certain restaurants, use particular terraces at the hotel for drinks, or have certain branded drinks, and have to pay for drinks/snacks in the aforementioned mini-bar. That is not 5* and it certainly is NOT all inclusive.

We tried all of the restaurants on site: the main buffet restaurant, the American, Italian and the Asian restaurant. We found the main buffet restaurant perfectly adequate with a great choice of food. The American and Italian restaurants were a let down - with exceptionally poor/rude service in the Italian. The Asian was well worth the visit and is highly recommended. We also paid the additional charge for the Privilege restaurant one night for a special occasion - the surroundings were nice, the service very good, but the food was no better than the other restaurants in our opinion.

We spent most evening in the entertainment room and the piano bar - and occasionally the sports bar. All were fine, especially the piano bar.

The hotel has an abundance of sunbeds around the various pools and there was always plenty of choice available. The hotel grounds were very clean and well presented.

The hotel is located about a 45 minute walk to the Marina in Playa Blanca. If you don't wish to stay all inclusive, I would look for a hotel further along the coast nearer to the resort.

Finally, there is currently building work going on a the hotel. The next block to us was getting renovated and we had drilling, sawing and banging from 9am until 6pm. It would have been nice to have been advised of this when we were allocated our room - but it was overlooked. Obviously, if we wanted to sit on the balcony during the day - this wasn't an option as noise was a massive disruption. The pool outside our room was almost deserted too - due to the on going building work.
As the hotel wasn't full, I would have expected them to house guests at the other end of the hotel grounds, to minimise disruption to the paying guests - but this choice was never offered, which is a disappointment.

We travelled as a couple - with no children so no comment on that aspect of the hotel.

Overall we had a good holiday at the H10 Rubicon Palace but I wouldn't class it as a 5* hotel, and unless you pay for the Privilege upgrade, it's not 'all inclusive' either. Also - the service falls way below standard expected for 5*

Room Tip: On first morning - go to guest relations at 9am PROMPT to book the speciality restaurants. Avoid bu...

Dear Les_H_99,

First of all, thank you for sharing your comments and thought about your stay at the hotel. We are sorry that you found the check-in being slow, despite the fact that our reception try to provide all information about the facilities and services the hotel has. The main idea is to provide all the information at the beginning of the stay so our guests are able to enjoy completely our resort from the beginning. We understand that not everybody want to enjoy the same type of holidays, and that's why the hotel is offering many different packages suitable for everybody's wishes. We have to remind that All Inclusive is a board type and it doesn't mean to not to pay for any other service or facilities of the hotel. Privilege service has an extra charge adding more services to their stay. Many guests find it well worth the money spent and some others consider that they don't need those services to enjoy all the variety of facilities we already offer in the hotel for the other packages. Of course, everybody can choose and we are very glad to know that each guest enjoys the package they book. We are sorry if we didn't achieve your expectations with this matter. Thank you for your comments since every feedback help us to improve, because the main goal of the hotel is to offer better experiences each season, increasing the guests’ satisfaction and having even better quality standards. Even if the feedback regarding the staff and service in the a la carte restaurants is usually more than positive, we will share it with our teams. Every feedback is studied in adition of the weekly survey control we are doing at the hotel, giving us a very good result about where to put our efforts on.

It would be a great pleasure to welcome you again in the future, in order to provide you excellent holidays and memories! We would like to see if we deserve an even higher rating next time with all the improvements done.

Best regards,
The Management.

Just back from a week staying here and I have nothing but high praise for this hotel. We have stayed here before and it was good but since the upgrade it is fantastic. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and any requests that we had were met with speed and courtesy. The rooms are large and very well maintained as are the gardens and the communal areas.
The choice of restaurants is very good but I would advise booking the speciality restaurants as soon as possible after arrival a they are very popular and get booked up quickly. The choice of food is varied and whilst it may not be that everyone likes the buffet style we found it to be more than adequate with a large choice at every meal. There are some shops on site one of which sells a very nice range of clothing and there Is even a coffee shop where you can enjoy a huge range of freshly made coffee, tea and smoothies. People have commented about the waiter drinks service in the restaurant,we never found this to be a problem as we enjoy a little time between courses anyway.
My only negative about the whole place is that at bust times there can be a long wait at reception which can be a bit annoying when all you want to do is change your pool towel. It might be an idea if more staff were on reception duty at bust times.

Room Tip: Ask in advance if you have a particularly request as the hotel will do their best to accommodate you...
