Great for Walks
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 7, 2017
A family run friendly and helpful hotel with excellent HB food, in a quiet village in the mountains with several enjoyable country walks available. Our room provided adequate (but not capacious) space and storage, with bathroom. The shower cubicle of limited width provided a good flow of hot water, coming through quickly from cold. There was a small in-room safe just about large enough for a 7” tablet and travel docs, at €5/week. The balcony had a metal bistro table and 2 chairs. Electric: EU 2-pin sockets beside the bed + one for the hair drier in the bathroom. The in-room TV provided local channels and a BBC World News channel. There’s no coffee/tea making facility.
The evening’s dinner menu is handed out at breakfast for guests to make their evening meal choice. The 4-course dinner starts with a light salad (lettuce mix + something else), a choice of soup or a pasta/rice, a choice of meat dish or a vegetarian (not vegan) dish, followed by a set sweet. Drinks are extra. Buffet breakfast provides a choice of 2 cereal, scrambled egg, boiled eggs, sausages or bacon, ham, cheese, seasonal fruit, yoghurt, bread/self-toast & jam, cake/fruit-tart, and machine coffee + US-style tea (coffee cup, hot water & teabag selection).
There’s several lovely walks from the hotel and reception is most helpful in providing maps and advice on walks (the start points from the village are not always obvious). The walk down to Sorrento takes about an hour and it’s best to get your return bus ticket (€1.30 standard fare to anywhere) from the Tabac in the village centre because we found the Tabacs in Sorrento had none. There’s a fun 3hr land train tour around the peninsular at €20 from the village centre (hotel reception will book it). Tour reps’ free walking tour of Sorrento is well worth attending, even with the commercial element.
Improvements: It would have been nice to have a choice of sweet at dinner. The machine coffee at breakfast is somewhat weak, especially for Italy (I cannot imagine an Italian drinking it). The building fabric transmits sound well, so room chairs need rubber feet to avoid being awoken by loud scraping noises if the occupant of the room above drags their chair across the floor at 1am.

We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Fernanda. The hotel is family run and the staff were very welcoming. Our bedroom and bathroom were small but we weren't expecting luxury for the reasonable price we paid. We had a lovely view over the village, church and hills and the rooms were kept spotlessly clean. Breakfast was continental but always included eggs, sometimes bacon or sausages, cereals fruit, cold meats and lovely bread rolls. Dinner was authentic Italian, salad and bread followed by a lovely pasta dish, followed by a meat or fish course with veg, and lastly a pudding or fruit. The hotel is in a village outside Sorrento and has good bars and coffee shops. Try Orlandos for drinks and complimentary bruchettas. Easy access to Sorrento on the local bus and onward to Amalfi and Positano. No need to pay for an expensive coach trip. If you go to Capri book through the hotel not your tour operator, they use an excellent local company. Also try the road train round the local area, a very entertaining half day where you get to see places off the tourist trail. We loved Sorrento, a lovely place for wandering and people watching. Go to Nerano beach, also on the bus, nice bars and not too touristy A great 11 night holiday.

Room tip: Rooms at the back have pool and hillside views and are quieter. Those on the top floor front will have a sea view but more traffic noise.

The hotel facilities were good with a big swimming pool and plenty of sun loungers. No towels for the pool area were provided so you had to use your small bathroom towel. Restaurant was satisfactory. What was disappointing was the very small bedroom and tiny shower. No laundry facilities were available. No room fridge was available and the safe in the bedroom could only hold passports and cash although your computer could be handed in at reception. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Decided to treat ourselves this year to an holiday abroad with some sunshine. Well, we certainly got that & more. Organised through thomson - no hassle at all. Hotel was great - the room was cleaned everyday & to a very high standard. The staff at hotel (family run) are superb, get to know them - they are very friendly & will make sure you enjoy your stay. The food wad great - all fresh with a good choice. Pool is lovely - you'll need it when that sun shines. The area is wonderful - get on the bus, organise some day trips, go & explore. I would go back tomorrow & stay at this hotel. Thanks Villa Fernanda - sorry it took so long to get this review sorted. Keep up the good work - will e-mail some photographs taken of the hotel.

Just back from a week here. A lovely, friendly family run hotel. Excellent value for the money. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. We had the smallest shower I have ever been in but we managed fine. Pool area is great, plenty of beds and shade if you want it. Garden full of flowers. Lunch under the grapevine was nice. Food was tasty and plentiful.
