Villa Romita is owned by the Grand Hotel Hermitage and is about 200 metres up a well lit private road from the main hotel. Originally built as a country retreat for the Neapolitan philosopher, Fernando Pepe in the 18th century the villa today offers a sense of peacefulness, relaxation and tradition.
We booked through Thomas Cook and, on first arrival, found the walk a little daunting (the incline is quite steep in places). However the shrubs, trees and herbs growing along the way took our minds off the strain after a while. The villa has a set of steps leading upto it from the road as well as a ramp; parking for guests is available outside the villa so accessibility shouldn't be a major problem. The rooms are basically furnished with a built in wardrobe (plenty of clothes hangers which we were grateful for), a small fridge for water, nibbles etc, a small, wall mounted TV with Sky and two plain chairs. Armchairs would have been a more comfortable alternative to this last item as there was nothing else to sit on apart from the bed. A safe, located in the wardrobe, was free of charge - again a bonus - and air conditioning was activated simply by phoning reception and requesting it. Secure windows and shutters opened out onto the balcony with, for our room, stunning views over the Bay of Naples to Mount Vesuvius and, in the foreground, the sprawl of Sorrento far below. The main sound we heard from the balcony during our stay was bird song. A small solarium is located on the roof of the villa with even more stunning views of the surrounding countryside while the village of Sant Agatta Sui Due Golfi is located along a private path from the villa (again, well lit).
Apart from the seating problem the only other quibble we had with the room was the lack of storage space in the bathroom - a small shelf near the basin for toiletries and another in the shower for shampoo and gel would have made life just that little more comfortable. Highly recommended.
