Have stayed here last year and was brilliant.

Now new management,

This year awful !
Staff were not welcoming at all, showed us to the VERY cramped pitch so close to the next tents. Dog poo on the pitch we were given that stank (obviously not checked before hand).
Had to have the tent SO close to the road (30cm) so unsafe.
We brought lots of games to play as this was a family holiday with kids, got told we could use the football near any tents and then suction cub archery incase it damaged anything? Whats next DEAT BY SHUTTLECOCK !!

Staff are like prison wardens not hosts.

Definitely won’t be staying here again. Shame as it’s a nice location.

After a welcome that was scripted but included no sincerity, being squeezed under a tree too close to neighbours and criticism of any kind of games, the staff are just poor - and the tent is covered in bird poo!

Revisited this site again in June after 35 years, a site that should and could be perfect if it was looked after by the 8 wardens a bit better, I have never seen so many wardens on any site before and this is obviously why fees are so high,
some of the wardens were more approachable than others, some grass was cut every couple of days where grass that needed cutting was left uncut, strimming was hit and miss again and as they missed around the fence near us I politely asked if it could be cut the manager warden replied ( you don't own the estate) which I don't think should have been said to any paying quest. The bins were only in one place away from most people and think they should have been placed around the site as some people were dumping rubbish in the washing up sink and also leaving their washing up in the sinks for hours so nobody could use the sink, the toilets/showers were clean and modern, on site shop closed.
Bus stop just outside site in both directions and Train station a short walk from site.
Finally a nice site right by the river but looking very tired and neglected, pull your socks up wardens and get things sorted.

So I've stayed here 5/6 times (for periods of 10 days a time) so feel I can give a balanced review.

Pros: like others have said, site is lovely situated on the river, facilities are OK and pitches are big, with plenty of them. Couple of decent pubs next door, not bad links to London.
Cons: this is run by an iron fist, don't be distracted by the seemingly welcoming staff (to be fair some are really nice) but there are three or four members of staff that have a serious power trip!
*Be aware they lock you into the site between 11pm - 7am and its strict.
God forbid, if there was a fire or ambulance needed
*insist on charging for electric on campervan pitches when not always needed or wanted
*If you want a Riverside pitch, forget it, seems better to leave empty pitches on the best spots
*They now lock the gates to stop you sitting by the river or paddleboarding for some reason (management orders apparently)
*Strictly no visitors in this bizarre dictatorship.
*Don think about questioning them about anything or get your head biten off
*no one answers the phone if you need to change booking. Money is just taken from your account and no refunds offered. Covid safe to avoid contact apparently yet they only except cash in shop (bizarre hypocrisy)

Real shame as I like it here but will never give stay again as I feel like I'm constantly walking on. Eggshells . This isn't a holiday destination

We stayed here for 4 nights whilst we explored the area and went to legoland and selected the venue based on comments on here and our stay was as fantastic as the previous reviews would suggest. Staff are welcoming and incredibly helpful and the site is well presented and perfectly managed. Would highly recommend.
