The view of the sunset is amazing, but if you're going here for the sunset experience there are plenty of other places on the island to visit. The food is terrible and horribly over priced. I wish I listened to the other poor reviews and skipped it, but the photos won me over. There are only 3 set menus (each over 100 euro) and the food is subpar at best. The entire evening they are filling you up on salty appetizers and cheap dishes before your main course eventually comes almost 3 hours later. If the food was good I wouldn't have minded the price.

The fix price meal is massively over priced. The entree and desserts were good but the appetizers were bad. The view is amazing for sunset. One of the most over priced restaurants I’ve been to in Europe. Very small portions and doesn’t live to the hype.

As Santorini Dave makes clear, if you want fine dining ala multi-course tasting menu with a view, this is about your only option. We tried to hotel-associated type of fine dining restaurants, and it did not go well. This food was superb; the service was high, high level, and you cannot beat the view. The staff is proud of their island and their restaurant and make you feel right at home.

The best thing I can say for the Athenian House is the view is amazing. Unfortunately the food and presentation doesn’t live up to that. They offer a choice between 3 fixed price menus which was nice, however none are are available with wine parings. Instead they offer wine flights, the cheapest at approximately 35 euro, in addition to bottles and wine by the glass. We went with flights to try several wines but they brought them all out at once so throughout the meal our tiny table had so many glasses and other decorations that the plates they used didn’t fit anymore hung off the edge.

For the food itself, nothing was bad, but nothing especially good. For example the breads were generally tough, and one course was a feta and caper flatbread that tasted like overly salty frozen mini pizzas, and were very salty. The kebab was good but the black linguini was undercooked and again too salty with only 2 shrimp. The baklava dessert was a hard shell stuffed with chocolate and peanut butter that was almost impossible to eat with the spoon.

While our service was fine, we did overhear several other guests complain. In the end there are much better places to have fine dining, for lower prices. I’ve reviewed our favorite on TripAdvisor.
