The location really is perfect - right next to the Super-Chatel lift and smack in the middle of town with restaurants, bars, supermarkets and shops within a fee hundred metres.

Unfortunately, nothing else really matches up. There’s a pool but it’s far too small for the number of residents. It’s always packed with tweenagers which is fine but means there’s not really any swimming for anyone else, either young kids or adults.

There’s a sauna (“hammam”) but only one for the entire site and you have to book and reserve it half an hour before you want it. So, once again, the facilities are too few for the number of people and you can’t really use them anyway.

Absolutely everything is charged as an extra. There’s nothing like a welcome pack on arrival, not even basic cleaning supplies for a day or two. They don’t even give you a tea towel! Robes have to be hired, pool towels have to be hired, etc etc. And this for a place that advertises as a “spa”.

The finish in the rooms is very cheap: average bathrooms, a small kitchenette with lots of useful equipment but only a mediocre microwave to cook with, completely unfinished wood for all doors and architraves which was covered in splinters and continually snagging towels and clothes. And about the worst bed I’ve ever slept on - uncomfortable, creaky and so light it practically slid along the floor if I sneezed.

All in all, the location makes up for a lot but the facilities are a real let down. Even a little bit of care or thoughtful addition of services would make up for a lot but I’ve come away feeling it’s nothing more than a money-spinner for the owners.

Dear Client,

We regret that your stay did not live up to your expectations.
We are pleased to hear, however, that you appreciated the excellent location in the centre of Châtel at the foot of the cable car.
For information, the swimming pool is reserved for adults every day for two hours. Regarding the sauna, it would not be eco-responsible to leave it on all day as it is often empty and we therefore ask guests to reserve 30 minutes in advance to allow the equipment to reach the suitable temperature.
All of our optional services and their costs are indicated in our communication documents.
Our accommodation has an equipped kitchen with ceramic hob, microwave, etc which should be sufficient for guests requirements. We also rent mini-ovens at reception if needed.
The "raw wood" aspect is a choice made by the architect meant to give our accommodation a warm, chalet-style atmosphere. In the case of any discomfort caused by facilities, we encourage guests to contact reception who will be happy to find a solution.
Regarding the beds, they are conform to standards put in place with the aim of meeting all our guests’ requirements.

The check in process took over 1 hour queueing with 6 families in front. In years of visiting many, many different hotels and accommodation on business and pleasure I have never experienced anything like it. Imagine an airport checkin queue only 100 times worse in terms of speed. If you arrive here on a busy day with children such as Saturday of half term then be prepared for an utter nightmare. We even arrived early and did paperwork, then queued over an hour to collect keys. Each family spends over 10 minutes being checked in... complete torture. Extremely rude manager also.

Dear Customer,

We are sorry to hear that your arrival and check-in at our residence did not take place under the best conditions.
During the French school holidays there are indeed many people at the reception and we have lots of information to give to each client and we try not to rush this important process. Normally check-in starts from 5pm and on this particular day, we distributed all accommodation keys before 5:15pm.

We hope to welcome you again in one of our many residences.

Regards

Travelling with 2 kids, Loved our stay here, accommodation was fantastic. Very comfortable. We were in a 2 bed apartment on the 3rd floor (C block) facing the village, views were fabulous. Ski lockers are located on the mountain side next to the super chatel lift so you only have about 1 minute walk! Perfect if you have young kids!! Open plan kitchen dining living space has everything you need and the bedrooms are a good size with storage on either side (wardrobe/shelves). Bringing essentials helps (tea/coffee/washing up liquid/dish washer tabs/sponge/tea towels/salt/pepper/toilet rolls) as nothing provided. Local Casino shop well stocked but is pricey.
Swimming pool is great and there is a sauna (we did not use), bring extra towels for pool & robe & slippers/flip flops as it’s a cold walk up to the rooms from the pool.
Accommodation is very close to the bakery/supermarket/ski hire/ski school offices/restaurants & bars - fabulous location.
Balcony is spacious outside with chairs and table, it does link to next door but there is a partition so not a problem - would prob not recommend higher floors with young kids as the doors do not lock (only with handle from inside).
Casino supermarket is a few minutes walk from the apartment but typically pricey, there is a large intermarche further down the road but you would need transport (bus maybe an option), we hired a car as it was cheaper than transfers. If you do have transport there is large Supermarkets on route to Chatel (close to lake Geneva) therefore would be worth stopping here for value/options.
You have to clean your apartment before leaving otherwise there is a cleaning fee.
Parking under the accommodation is free.
Best ski accommodation we have stayed in and works well with kids.
