Dear Mark, thank you for your review of our resort, we are delighted that you enjoyed our acckmmodations and our services around the property.
Very much looking forward to welcome you back in our little paradise in the near future.
My daughter and I were overwhelmed with the natural beauty of the Four Seasons and the Peninsula Papagayo.
We stayed in a dreamy plunge pool canopy suite overlooking the bay. Sunrises from the suite were glorious. Our suite was a few minutes uphill walk from the beaches and restaurants. We enjoyed the walk as we were able to see monkeys and other wildlife on the way. Walking home from dinner while listening to howler monkeys was especially memorable.
The plunge pool was heated to perfection. On two occasions we were joined by howler monkeys in the tree right next to our plunge pool!
The food at all four restaurants was exceptional. We highly recommend the mahi and seafood casserole at the steakhouse and the the exquisite braised beef cheeks at Pesce-melt in your mouth! The duck appetizer at the tapas restaurant is to die for. Having four exceptional restaurants at one property is rare, and we thoroughly enjoyed each one.
The breakfasts rank among the best we have experienced in our many decades of luxury travel. Extensive selection and everything we tried was outstanding!
The service at the restaurants was especially good. Service throughout the resort was what we have come to expect from the Four Seasons- perfection. The only area not up to par was the beach service. The beach closes at 2:30 PM due to a country wide mandate. However, prior to 2:30pm we found the service to be lacking. In order to get towels and water we had to track down an attendant. No one came by with anything..no special drinks or fun treats which is standard at Four Seasons. One could blame Covid, but we have visited other luxury resorts in the last year and have had wonderful beach service. I think this is an area they could improve.
A few tips:
-Don’t miss the wonderful hike right from Four Seasons Blanca Beach to their Virador beach. The trail starts from either beach connecting with stairs. You can also take a side jaunt to Prieta Beach. On the hike we saw dozens of howler monkeys, coati, cool birds and more. Strenuous... but a fun way to work off all the fabulous food. Best time of day for this hike is early morning or late afternoon when the animals are more active.
-For a fun 1/2 day excursion..take the 20 minute boat ride right from the Four Seasons beach to Diamante Eco Park where you can try superman zip lining! Plus the animal rescue preserve at the bottom is wonderful.
-The day trip to Sensoria was our favorite! We will never forget our guide, Maria. We started by stopping in a charming village just outside the rainforest for traditional Costa Rican coffee and sweet breads. At Sensoria, we hiked to waterfalls and swam in thermal pools. We finished with a delicious Costa Rican lunch. On the way home our driver spotted a sloth which we were able to get out and view. We then spent a half hour watching two families of howler monkeys jump from the canopy (over 40 monkeys!) and ended at hole three on the golf course to watch the sunset. So grateful to the 4S Concierge for arranging a day that we will never forget.
This is a very special property which we consider among the best Four Seasons beach properties in the world. Pura Vida!
Dear Friend, Thank you so much for not only making our resort your vacation destination, but for taking the time to share your experiences with future travelers, I am delighted that you and your daughter had a chance to experience all that we have to offer. I am humbled by your comments about our services, i do apologize that we may have fallen short in your beach experience, I am happy to any additional feedback you may wish to share with me and very much look forward to staying in touch.
Our family of four stayed in a two bedroom villa over the Christmas holiday. The villa was large, well appointed, and had an amazing view. The private outdoor shower was a surprise bonus. We watched monkeys swing in the trees around us. The facility was very nice, but the people on staff were even nicer. They knew how to do their jobs well, but they added a touch of personality that made every interaction pleasant. We enjoyed getting to know many of them. The concierge team helped us plan excursions, meals and spa appointments. The bell staff made the golf cart rides from our villa to the main lobby/restaurant/beach area fun. (The app makes requesting them quick and easy.) We learned a lot about the flora and fauna from them. Restaurant staff knew our names after one day and welcomed us to each meal. They worked around my daughter’s dairy allergy magnificently. We found the food to be very good. Alberto at the beach took great care of us and told us a lot about the monkeys playing in the trees above us. The ocean-facing beach was our favorite as it is more pristine and quieter than the bay side with all the water sports. The spa is well equipped, and the treatments we’re heavenly. All in all it was a perfect stay. Can’t wait to return. If you can’t be happy here, you can’t be happy.
Thank you very much for the review of your recent stay with us and your appealing mention of our services and friendly staff. We are delighted to read that you had such a great time; your review is pure motivation for the team to continue our efforts in the same direction.
Please stay in touch and come back soon to the land of Pura Vida!
We checked in and our room was ready, so no complaints here (except there was no welcome drink as in all the other hotels we stayed in Costa Rica). The receptionist was kind and friendly and promptly agreed on changing our king bed to two doubles. Little we knew this was going to take roughly two hours and when we finally entered the room there were two maintenance people fixing the ceiling fan. She did upgrade us to two categories above, but no one escorted us to the room (once again, different from all the other hotels). The room was nice and spacious, on the third floor, and the beds were absolutely amazing. But apart from that, nothing special, not too much character, and they had a sort of screen on the balcony to protect from mosquitos that wouldn't come up (kind of killing the whole atmosphere and sea views). Amenities were below average, minibar likewise. The pools seemed old, with no special decor or lighting for the night (it felt like on a 4 stars old hotel in Florida), not charming at all. Food at the bar was OK, and whisky and wine list poor. They do have the best rum cave in the country, for those who like it. We only had dinner at Bahia, because that was so disappointing we decided to eat elsewhere for the next days. We had the scallops (those were very good), but then we had the congrio fillet and the whole seabass (which were supposed to be the house special), and I'm sad to say, but it was the worst food we had on our entire trip. Service was good overall, and we took the kayaking tour (nothing special, except for our guide that did his best to educate us on the Costa Rican culture and geography). Now for the highlights: the bartender at playa Virador was super friendly, always with a big smile on his face, and made great cocktails and the best homemade guacamole every morning (unfortunately I forgot his name, maybe Joseph or Jason). Our surf instructor from Norway was the most patient and happy person you could have asked for. And our golf instructor made our day, with so much knowledge and technique. So I feel bad for the harsh criticism, but the grounds of the property is one the most beautiful places we've seen in Costa Rica, so I really hope this comments can make the hotel grow a bit better. I think if you stay in one of their villas, which look absolutely astonishing, it might be a whole different experience. Overall, my experience summed in one word would be: overrated. PS: the Pietra beach club just nearby is a must!
We are so grateful for your stay and for the detailed feedback. We always strive to provide all our guests with the highest level of service and learning of your unsatisfactory experience is disappointing for us, please accept our sincere apology.
While I can well understand that you were not completely inspired by your experience with us, I am happy to hear that you had great experiences with many of our people who are indeed the foundation of what we do. I hope that one day, you will give us another opportunity so that we can show you what we are all about.
I wish you a happy and healthy New Year!
Thank you again,
We stayed for 2 nights just after new year's - this was our third hotel in Costa Rica this trip and by far the best one (2 cuts above all else)
Room: We stayed in a terraza room - lowest category. Every detail was immaculate and room was fully equipped with everything we needed. We even had a view of the monkeys in the trees with colorful parrots. A dream
Service: World Class, proactive, quick and what you'd expect from a four seasons and more - highly impressed with every employee we interacted with, particularly Santos and Carolina from Bahia, Dennis from Pesce, and Antonio at Blanca Pool
Nemare: Dinner was delicious - chef came out for feedback for every dish, exceeded expectations
Bahia: We had lunch there 4 times (3 times in the week prior to checking in) - we had almost every item on the menu and didn't have 1 single bad item - creative flavors and attentive service
Pesce: Impressed with the chef and the Carpaccio de Manzo especially
Anejo: I had sushi delivered to my beach side chair from there - paradise. Great staff too
Water Sports: Great service and very fast to get on the water
Overall this was a wonderful stay and am now considering purchasing a residence on Papagayo.
Dear Guillaume, I must say your review made my day. Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experiences of your recent visit to our little paradise. I am thrilled that you enjoyed your stay and felt compelled to spread the word about our resort and our incredible location, activities and amenities. I am very proud of our team and the manner in which they offer an authentic Tico hospitality.
Very much look forward to welcome you back again in your new home away from home.
We bad the most wonderful stay in one of the suites which was ideally suited for our needs, traveling with 3 teenage daughters. Service was over the top and hotel location and design are optimal. We felt very safe at all times, the hotel allows for dining outdoors at all venues, care was taken to safely the guests while respecting measures to prevent the spread of corona virus or any potential contamination. Extreme sanitation is obvious everywhere and masks are worn at all times by every team member. We mostly took advantage of the beaches, one on each side of the resort, had a round of golf and took a wonderful catamaran cruise organized by the concierge on the Altair X. Snorkeling was impeded by currents that reduced visibility but it didn’t matter. The overall experience could not have been better.
Dear Genfr, I am truly humbled by your comments about our resort and truly appreciate your making us your vacation destination.
It was absolute pleasure having you stay with us, and that you and your family felt safe with us, which is our priority.
We look forward to welcome you back in the near future, stay in touch.
