We stayed here for two nights at the end of our trip around Cuba.

The island is amazing – fine white sand, clear turquoise water, palm trees and beach cabanas. As there are only hotel guests and day guests on the island, the beach is never crowded; I guess each guest has 50-100 meters of beach for their own. A lot of the time we were the only two people in the water.

Location:

You can only reach the island by boat. It departs three times a day from the mainland. In our case, the ticket for the boat was included in the price. The boat ride takes about 35min through calm water, with a great view of the shore and the mountains on the mainland. Then it’s a short walk through mangroves on a wooden jetty to the reception. The design of the hotel lobby and bar is beautiful with a roof made from palm leaves, open spaces, dark wood and palm trees - a very romantic location.

On the first evening we saw a “Jutia”, a cute, shy animal that exists only in Cuba, looks kind of like a beaver.

Beach:

The beach was simply beautiful, white sand and blue water, not crowded, no big waves. There were many cabanas and sunbeds on the beach to relax in the shade.

The only downside was the sea grass. Hotel staff cleaned up the sea grass, but while they were picking it up, more sea grass came in - a never-ending story.

On the second day, we took a walk on the beach to both ends of the island and we saw some jellyfish washed up on the beach – we googled it at home and it’s a Portuguese man-of-war, a poisonous jellyfish. From then on we were more careful in the water.

Room & Bathroom:

The bungalows vary in size. The further from the reception, the bigger the bungalows are.

We had a very big bungalow facing the sea. It had a small terrace with sunbeds with a view of the sea, a large double bed, a couch area and a huge bathroom with two sinks, two walk-in showers and a separate toilet. The furniture was worn and old-fashioned, but that’s the case everywhere in Cuba.

The shower worked well and we always had hot water. There was also an outdoor shower to get the sand off your feet. The bungalow was clean for Cuban standards and the housekeeping did a good job. There was no water in the minibar, but you can buy big water bottles at the hotel bar. The bed was comfortable and it was very quiet at night.

Air-conditioning:

The only downside was that the AC didn’t work. At first there were no batteries in the remote, so we got some new batteries from the front desk. However, it didn’t work even with the new batteries and we spent the first night without air-conditioning.

We left the windows open and lots of mosquitos attacked us at night, plus a big grasshopper got into the bathroom because of the open windows.

The next day, we asked at the reception for the AC to be fixed and we were told that there’s a switch in the fuse box in the wardrobe that we need to turn up. Once we did that, the AC started working.

I think whenever there’s a power outage at the island, the switch for the AC falls and then you need to turn it on again in the fuse box. The second night with the AC on and the windows closed was much better. The front desk staff could’ve told us about this switch when we asked for the new batteries, that would’ve saved us a night full of mosquito attacks. That’s why I’m subtracting one point from the rating.

F&B:

There are two restaurants and a bar.

The bigger restaurant by the beach has a wide selection of food, but the food doesn’t taste like anything (no salt, no herbs or spices), that’s why I’m subtracting a second point from the rating.

At the smaller restaurant you might have to wait for a table and though they have basically the same food as at the big restaurant, the food tastes better and the chicken and fish, which are cooked directly for you by a chef, were marinated really well. It was the best chicken I had in Cuba. After we discovered this smaller restaurant, we only went there for lunch and dinner.

The food is always the same for lunch and dinner (chicken, fish, seafood, rice and beans, potatoes, bread, some vegetables, caramel flan for dessert), but the taste was good. We always slept in, so we can’t say anything about breakfast.

The mojitos at the smaller restaurant and at the bar were good too and not expensive.
On one evening, there was live music at the smaller restaurant, they played all the Spanish songs, which tourists know and guests were dancing - it was a fun night.

Staff:

The employees were friendly and we never had to wait long. Check-in and check-out was fast.

Overall:

It’s a good place to relax for two or three days, but for a longer stay the food is too repetitive. It’s a very romantic island and the beach is amazing.

This is stereotypical paradise, a stunning small very green island with amazing long white beaches, perfect for long walks, relaxing, and sunsets to marvel at. Be open minded with the hotel product, its a 3 star product at best. Food, and quality, but see through that, as the beach and beauty of the Island and clear warm waters of the sea more than compensate. Its ideal for 2 nights. The hotel maintenance manager evidently is on long term leave. The board walks are missing planks in many places, the railings not secure, so be careful. That said, staff are all super hospitable, as they are everywhere in Cuba. Beware the Cabanas partitioned split into 2 rooms are not sound proof, you hear the TV next door and everything else. It's a shame as with a little attention to detail this place could be so much more. If this was in Greece or an island in the Med, it would be 2 star hotel. Food is fine, and good quality for Cuba, but after 2 days, you may be ready for a change from the buffet. It was good quality though. In conclusion its a lovely experience at the end of a holiday touring around Cuba, Havana, Trinidad, Vinalles. So do go and Enjoy, its beautiful! Finally, and this is a big one..Our return boat was not the usual ferry, and had no life vests, just 2 life rings with around 40 people on board for the 30+ minute trip.

Room Tip: Make sure its a cabana with no neighbours sharing same unit, or you will hear their TV & everything else.

The location is very idyllic - powder white sand, beautiful crystal clear sea and the accommodation we had very spacious and comfortable.
But the food was really terrible. It is,of course,Our choice to be vegetarian -but the same bland food was presented at both main meals.... stale cold chewy pasta, tinned mixed vegetables, tasteless stale bread and unadventurous salad.
Three days was enough for us even though the location was so very special.
The snorkelling trio was excellent

Saludos.

Cuba has lots of beaches... Cayo Levisa has the best. Please, the sand there is like fine and white powder for babies! Hurricanes modifies it for better every time. There is an awesome beach in the eastern corner of the island, you must go!

we loved Cayo Levisa, the Hotel Staff and the Beach make this place very special .
the Snorkel its good, the beach clean and beautifiul, the staff so so friendly .
the rooms are ok too, the new bungalows are very big but they are not on the beach if you want to be on the beach then you need to book the old ones and specify that you want to be on the beach .
The hotel recepcionist Alberto is the most efficient guy I have met in Cuba, he will solve all your problems.
The only disappointing thing was the food. So badly presented in the buffet and even thought they have few good ingredients they do not know how to cook it or cater for the tourists. I felt that the rice was dangerously left for ours at hight temperatures.
My recomendation is have the fresh fish cook every time and take some snacks with you .
