Been to many hotels before. Coco Grande is amazing for their hospitality and very accommodating staff. The food is very tasty. Even the guards and housekeepers has good manners, also smiles whenever you pass by them. Our room is relaxing with good amenities too. We had a good 3 days 2 nights stay and adventure experience in the City of Gentle (Dumaguete).

Things that don't work.
Zero internet
Broken toilet
Bathroom faucet

Horrible staff English comprehension, indifferent staff about the many problems I have been faced with. Strong chemical smell, need to wait up to 30 minutes on the street for a trike to pick you up every time you want to leave. Hotel can't and won't call anyone. Water takes 10 minutes to get hot. Wifi won't work so I have to call Manilla, the front desk can't tell me the area code to call their capital city, worst they don't have the intelligence to figure it out. The people are the downside of this poorly run hotel. The bed is short and horrible, the linens are uncomfortable, the towels are old and worn out. Owner needs to invest in training and invest in remodeling his business here. So not worth the money.

The question is is this bad hotel better than all the other bad hotels in the area in its class? I came here with very low expectations and I am amazed how bad this place is.

Dear Andrew

It is quite unfortunate that you found yourself faced with many problems and we are sorry for that. However, at our hotel, what you called problems were issues that our staff have already addressed during your stay. You were transferred to another room when you complained about the internet and the toilet.

Our staff also did their best to help you with transportation, in spite of you somehow not being able to comprehend that Dumaguete City does not have taxi cabs nor Grab taxi where you can just hail one the moment you step out of the hotel and hop in. It is beyond the staff's control if the tricycle driver does not want to bring you to your destination.

As for these comments: "The bed is short and horrible, the linens are uncomfortable, the towels are old and worn out.", our staff don't recall you letting them know about these, otherwise they would have worked on finding a solution for you.

We pride ourselves in sincerely caring for our guests and meeting their needs to the best of our capacity. It is inaccurate then to say that the staff was indifferent and unwilling to help. It is also in no way a reflection of the quality of our service when someone such as yourself pile on the insults and attack the intelligence and English skills of hardworking people.

Both our staff and management carefully read through your review, and we're working on improving our facilities. Thank you for your feedback, and we sincerely hope that your future travels be problem-free.

It doesn't always have to be a modern hotel ... and not always a 5-star house.
Not far from the middle of the city and close to the harbour.... With a small restaurant with delicious food and a hotel with heart, you feel well-kept here.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Because of a hospital stay, we had to stay in Dumaguete for longer.
The staff were touched and helped with everything that was to be done. It's a great service.
A big compliment to everyone and thank you for everything.
We'd like to come back, even without an emergency.

We've stayed at Coco Grande several times when transitioning to/from Siquijor (often stranded by typhoons). The staff always go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The decor of the hotel is a charming Spanish theme, and the rooms are quite spacious. What prompted me to write this review today was the food we had for lunch this afternoon! They recommended a new dish not yet on the menu (Chicken Curry). I loved how spicy and flavorful it was, one of the best curries I've had in the Philippines! From the great location, to the staff, to the rooms, to the food -- you won't be disappointed when choosing Coco Grande!

My wife and I have stayed at this hotel every time we come to Dumaguete to visit her family and friends, although it was four years since our last visit the staff who were there during our previous visits recognised us as soon as we walked in which was fantastic and since our last visit the hotel has been upgraded and looks terrific. We find this hotel close to all amenties, ie., airport, shops ets., We highly reccomend this family friendly hotel.
