Buy the $5.50 All Day Pass and you can see the city for one whole day. It is the cheapest way to see Honolulu and Waikiki.

The public transportation in Honolulu is cheap and efficient as long as you do not mind being on Hawaii time! $5.50 exact change gets you a one day pass. There is an App, website and phone number to help you navigate. We did all our traveling on the bus plus a $5.50 one way for two dropping us off at the airport terminal!!

Anyone traveling to Oahu, do yourselves a favour. Forget the Waikiki trolley. It may be cute and all but is $25 oneway from pearl harbor to Waikiki. You can spend $5.50 for a day pass on the bus and go anywhere on the island. I MEAN ANYWHERE. Its faster, has AC okay the odd crackhead... but seriously. Anyone staying in Waikiki the #42 or 40 will get you to pearl harbor in under 40 mins. The #20 can get you to the airport in 30-35. Buses can all be caught at the Ala Moana shopping center at the "north end of waikiki"

Exact change required!!!!! However what a convenient and clean way to get around the island. I just purchased a Senior Pass on my 65th birthday. But highly recommend the day passes for younger folks - you can get on as many buses as you want for a single price! I also recommend downloading the app to your smart phone so you can see when the buses are arriving. You can go online and figure out what bus you need to get where. Every bus has wheel chair/scooter access. Most of them have outside bike racks in front of the bus. There is an electronic board which tells you what popular places are around each stop. The drivers are polite, mostly friendly and extremely skilled drivers.

I was only a tourist visiting near Waikiki for 9 days. The buses were usually late(Island time). But we didn’t mind it. We seemed to purchase the daily passes for $5. Since we didn’t want to walk everywhere or pay for a car for a week where it was more to park the car than to have it. So we just rented a car daily and used the bus for everything else. All the drivers were extremely nice and helpful with directions
