The Cliffside Inn is an immaculate, well maintained 1870's Bed & Breakfast in beautiful Newport, not far from downtown. My husband and I spent Easter weekend in the luxurious Victorian room on the first floor. We were welcomed by a very pleasant host, who offered us lots of ideas for restaurants and things to do in Newport. The spotless, newly renovated bathroom was spacious, with lots of room for all our toiletries. We enjoyed the gas fireplace in the room. Breakfast was excellent; it was served buffet style-- everything was individually packaged (in this age of Covid), from eggs to French toast to muffins to fresh fruit to yogurt parfaits to oatmeal and more. Great selection and plenty to eat.
The Inn fell short of five stars, in my opinion, because of the following: Although spacious, the room was a bit awkward with nowhere to use a laptop (no table or desk). The only plug near the bed was behind the bed (which was too heavy to move); the bedside lamps were plugged into the 2 sockets-- there was nowhere to easily plug in my CPAP machine, cellphones, or other electronics by the bed. An easy solution here (besides traveling with a power strip/extension cord), is for the Inn to replace the bedside lamps with lamps that have sockets and USB outlets in them, or supply a power strip. Since there was no clock in the room, we had to rely on our cellphones which were plugged in across the room from our bed; not very convenient when you wake up in the middle of the night looking for the time. Also, take note that this room does not have a mini fridge, but if you have a cooler, there is plenty of ice in the ice machine. There was no hand sanitizer at all anywhere in the Inn, so be sure to bring your own.
