Really? Are we the first to review this place? Well, maybe because no one seems to know much about it and where it is. So indulge us this story. We were directed to this family enterprise by someone who said, if wanted to eat great, eat local and eat non-"restaurant chain" food, we should check out the food shop (er, truck) a few shopping centers away from the Silver Saddle Motel on Cerrillos Rd. We had driven back and forth for a couple of days on that strip, but had never seen it. So we decided to walk so we wouldn't miss anything. And yes, there it was--in big white letters on a big red roof: "El Rinconcito de Sabor"-- just south of our motel, same side, on Cerrillos at the Siler Rd intersection, under the kitchy aqua Cactus Centro sign, steps away from the sidewalk. You really don’t see it unless you know you are looking for it. But once you find it, you will wonder how you never saw it. Weird. There is no website, but you can do a search on the various internet menu platforms to see their offerings. Or read the menu next to the order window right then and there.
The owners poked their faces out the side window and took our order and immediately start making it all fresh. Now, impatient toe-tappers, instant gratificationers, you have to wait for fresh for this is no Taco Bell. Ten minutes or so later, depending on what you order, out comes your food to take away or sit at the picnic table to the left of the order window or on the stools in front.
Delicious. It’s like you went into your kitchen and said, “Mamá, make me some—“ fill in the blank—and she does right then and there. Or he does, in this case. But only for breakfast and lunch/dinner ‘cause they close at 8pm. The menu is Mexican, not New Mexican, and now we know the difference. Except it is not really like Mamá is cooking because you have to pay them--not much, but you do. Budget dining, great food. El Rinconcito de Sabor—the little corner of flavor. Well named. Well done.
