Stayed on Easter weekend, booked a 1 bedroom suite because the price differential between that and a regular room was only about $20!
As mentioned in many reviews, this hotel is not located right in Santa Fe, it is about 15 or so minutes north of downtown. Not a bad drive, all highway and being out of town gives it a nice "out of the way" quiet vibe. Parking is plentiful and we were able to park in front of the hotel without problem the whole weekend. And self parking is free!
Check in was a breeze, room ready when we arrived at 4PM. A bit of a hike to the elevators for building 2 but we were thrilled with the room on the 5th floor. By the way, other reviewers have stated there is a chlorine smell in the hotel - we did find this to be true because on the first level of building 2 is the indoor pool, which gets a lot of use - so I assume they over chlorinate. Unfortunately this does translate into a very pungent smell of chlorine while walking the hall to the building 2 elevator. We did not however smell it in our room.
The room was on the 5th floor and had 2 bee hive fireplaces, one in the loving room and one in the bedroom - a large balcony overlooking the green belt and up toward the mountains. Also had 2 fridges! Bathroom long and narrow with WC on one end, small tub shower combo, a vanity (no plumbing) nook and a single sink vanity. The ceiling is very Santa Fe with the lodge pole type beams. Overall we were happy with the room and the bed was comfortable. One thing of note - not sure when the hotel was built but pretty sure it was a while ago because the room furnishings were pretty battered, and the carpet was very worn. The carpet in hallways betrays age and heavy traffic also.
Dining - We dined at Red Sage, all I can say is fantastic! Service from Thomas was excellent, meals were very good and pricing for a fine dining spot was very reasonable. Would definitely return. Lunch at Café Iguana was also very good, typical coffee shop food with some New Mexican dishes that were as good as what we had eaten in town. The snack bar in the casino - the only disappointment in food that we had here -breakfast was bland and not served well cooked (they assemble the breakfast burrito with cold stuff, then pop it in a convection oven to heat up, but they don't allow enough time so the top of the burrito was warm, the bottom was cold)
Casino - its big that's for sure - lots of machines and table games - not as much video poker as you would normally find - but they are there. There is only one small section of the casino that is non-smokings, otherwise smoke everywhere. Unfortunately in New Mexico you can have alcohol on the casino floor, so you have to leave the machines to visit one of the two bars located on the casino level and have your beverage there before going back to the floor. A bit of a hassle. Otherwise, if all you wanted was soda or water, the wait staff was plentiful to fulfill your soft drink needs.
Spa - Much like the rest of the hotel, the spa was dated but the treatments were excellent and moderately priced. Not a spa I would spend all day in, pretty much just go, get your treatment and leave - but like I said - the treatments were great!
Overall I would love to go back and spend some more time in Santa Fe and I would gladly stay again at Buffalo Thunder. Only reason not to rate it a 5 was the aged appearance of almost everything!

If you think you are visiting just another Hilton, think again! The architecture is reminiscent of the best of the Southwest style. No money was spared. And then there is the art, the ceramics in particular are amazing! I haven't even mentioned the rooms and food, both of which were exceptional. The Happy Hour at the Red Sage was worth trying . The calamari was some of the best we have had in Santa Fe. We had a delicious buffet breakfast, the best parts being an individually made omelet and the pastries. If you haven't been to a casino lately, check this one out. It seemed like a football field of bliniking colored lights
and to our surprise, smoking was allowed so we rushed to the nearest door to get out in the air. However, there are some non-smoking areas. If you wish, you can have a very enjoyable time and skip the casino altogether.

Dear kcverde2015,

Hilton Santa Fe Buffalo Thunder currently houses the largest privately owned Indian art collection in New Mexico and we are delighted you were able to see for yourself how incredible it is.

On your next visit you should consider joining us for Jazz night which is the first Thursday of every month at Red Sage. Calamari and Jazz good combination.

The hotel, restaurants, and casino were great. The golf course was advertised as the best in the state but it was awful! I get that it's early spring but we've never played a course in such terrible condition. The tee boxes weren't mowed, there was little difference between the fairways and the rough, and the putting greens felt like carpet. This wasn't an issue of early season- I can easily look past that- the issue was terrible maintenance. So disappointed!

The website definitely makes this place look WAY nicer and cleaner than it actually is.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

- our bathroom was not clean. There was hair from previous people.
- smoking is allowed in the downstairs casino, therefore there is a faint smell of smoke all throughout the building
- access to the rooms from the elevator is far away. We had to walk almost 3 city blocks to get to our room from the elevator
- sheets felt very starchy and were not comfortable
- they claim to have tons of places to eat but only 3 restaurants were open and 2 of them were down in the smoke filled casino
