A good alternative to Tumon hotels

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 28, 2018via mobile
This was our second time staying at Leo Palace in two years, both times at the Discovery Tower. Although it’s far from Tumon and the beaches, it’s quite beautiful and the resort is very peaceful. If you have a car, it’s worth considering.
The one bedrooms are a good option for families, with the full kitchen and living room. I also enjoyed a great spa appointment with Hathy.
The resort does have kinks. It’s in need of TLC. Our bedroom window had algae on the outside making it hard to enjoy the view, nor was there patio furniture for us to enjoy the giant balcony. The pool areas could have used a few more chairs and it was slippery. The restaurants on site had weird hours, so it was not easy to eat at the resort.

The resort has everything you can imagine, 36 holes of Golf with amazing views of the ocean and rolling hills. The 26 lane bowling alley, Karaoke Rooms and indoor Golf simulator will keep you busy at night, Leo Palace Resort is the best place to stay, with a free shuttle to down town Tumon you can enjoy shopping and be back for dinner at one of many restaurants in the Resort, I look forward to my next staycation.

Leo Palace should change it’s name to Leo’s Place. It is no Palace. First impressions are lasting. All the building s are old and dirty. It looks like it has not fully recovered from the last typhoon. Totally run down. Besides the looks they have an operational SCAM! It’s called “Leo Dollars.” This is an internal currency you have to use to purchase stuff. It’s a one for one exchange. The scam is you have to use Leo Dollars to make purchases. You can exchange back to normal money. You either spend it or take it with you. Also they expire in three days. So you are forced to buy more merchandise or loose out! This is good idea for the owner but it is bad for the guest. Total scam! I am never going back.

Dear Justin C,

Thank you for visiting LeoPalace Resort Guam and taking the time to post your review.

Please allow me to explain how our Leo Dollars work. Leo Dollars are only sold at our in-house events, such as the New Year’s Eve Countdown Party and the Summer Japanese Festivals. During these events all booths (food, games, face painting, etc.) require Leo Dollars. Guests are allowed to purchase as many Leo Dollars as they like, however at the time of purchase we do inform our guests, as well as display notices, that Leo Dollars are not refundable. We understand that sometimes our kids, and even adults, get a little excited at our events and purchase more than they are able to spend in one night. For this reason, we allow our guests three additional days to use their leftover Leo Dollars at any of the outlets within the Resort.

We apologize for any miscommunication on our part. Please understand, our guests are not required to purchase Leo Dollars unless they attend an event and would like to purchase food, merchandise or play games at our booths. All of our facilities at LeoPalace accept cash and all major credit cards.

We do hope you will join us again at any of our events throughout the year here at LeoPalace Resort!

Stayed at La Cuesta for 9 days. On our first night we fill the tub with hot water since we need a hot bath coz it’s cold weather. The next morning I took a shower and the water is cold. I didn’t complain coz we need to go out. That night when we took a shower no hot water. We called for maintenance. The next night same thing and was told by the maintenance that the other room maybe over use the hot water. OMG is that an answer to the guest who wanted to take a hot bath coz were soak in the rain. There was typhoon during our stay and the weather is cold. Then I saw a lizard roaming around the shower room during my bath. Didn’t tell my husband coz he is afraid of lizard. What an experience. And the service bus going to Westin hotel. At Westin the bus is already parked it’s 15 min before departure going back to Leo Palace. The driver won’t let us in the bus coz it’s too early he said. He made us wait outside in the heat while he stayed in the bus playing with his phone . Why won’t he let the guest get on the bus ? We’ve been coming here in Guam every year stayed at Leo palace every time but this is the first time we experienced these kind of in convenience. And the food at Largo.... worst not like before. The buffet at the golf club is very good. What happened Leo Palace, your standard went down . I love this hotel but what happened!!????

Dear Marikono,

Thank you very much for taking the time in writing this review and for your continued patronage to LeoPalace Resort Guam.

We sincerely apologize for the lack of hot water in our condominium. It seems the condo you stayed in was a connecting room and shares a water heater with the guests next door. The tank should be large enough to support both rooms, however, we will look into this issue and discuss with our Engineering team on ways to improve in this area. We understand that Guam lizards, also known as Gecko’s, are sometimes quite a nuisance to tourists and even the locals. Unfortunately it’s part of living on a tropical island. If it happens again at your next visit, please call the Front Desk and we will take care of your uninvited guest.

In regards to the bus transportation, we currently use an outside company to assist us with shuttling our guests to Tumon, however we will certainly inform them of this incident and request that they be more accommodating to our guests. On that note, effective December 1, 2017 our guests are now picked up and dropped off at Guam Plaza Resort & Spa – A much better location in the center of our busiest shopping area. We expect this new location will be more convenient for our valued guests.

Once again Marikono, we greatly appreciate your much needed feedback as we continue to work on improving our Resort. We truly hope you will continue to choose us during your visits to our beautiful island of Guam.

I've always loved staying at Leo Palace because the hotel is beautiful and the rooms are great, but today that changed. The front desk manager and staff gave my sister in law and I a hard time when we were about to check out. The manager made accusations that more than three guests stayed with us and tried to make us pay for another bed after we told him multiple times that it was just us. He literally went as far as sending security to the room to check and after he was told no one was there he then checked himself. This all happened because the guests next door to us kept making complaints that we were ''too loud'' when we really weren't. They kept banging on our wall for absolutely no reason and whenever we called front desk and asked for someone to tell them to stop no one did, so the banging continued. We let it go because no matter how many times we made a complaint it wasn't getting resolved, instead it made us the bad people. Let me note that the guests next door were Japanese and the manager is also Japanese so obviously they weren't given a hard time by him. We tried to explain our side to the front desk because we wanted to get the hell out of there and we wanted help from someone but no one gave us the help we needed. We were told it was our fault that this was happening and was given attitude by this employee Rose. I'm very hot headed and when someone gives me attitude, I give attitude back so we argued for a good two minutes while she was still on the clock. Great customer service, right? Shout out to Leo Palace and their two employees of the month, their manager and Rose. No but seriously, I won't be staying here ever again.

Pros: Very economical, and a secluded location in its own giant compoud. The rooms are spacious, and have everything you could want for a large group. We came with six adults, and had more than enough room for everyone. The amenities are very nice around the compound, and the rooms were clean and the air conditioning worked very well. The staff was extremely nice and the lobby was professional and clean.

Cons: The location is very far off of the beaten path, and has no beaches within 15-20 minutes away. The outside of the buildings are what shows signs of age, but appear to be structurally intact. We were unable to park under the marquee to check in, but were shoed away by the security staff to the closest parking space, which was quite far away.

Room tip: Rooms on higher floors offer better views.

Dear ArrrDubya,

We appreciate you taking the time to write a review and for choosing LeoPalace Resort for your recent stay.

Thank you for the many complements regarding the cleanliness and comfort of our rooms. We are happy that we were able to accommodate your large group as you are indeed correct, we have a giant compound with more than enough space for everyone. I will share your review with our staff as I’m sure they will greatly appreciate it.

We are very sorry that you were “shoed” away by our security guard. We will surely bring this incident to their manager so they may work on more respectful ways to inform our guests of our no parking zone. We are also considering other areas for our guests checking in to our towers and how we can be more accommodating.

Thank you once again for your review. We hope to welcome you back soon to LeoPalace Resort Guam.
