We were recommended Chez Mattin and we are truly grateful to them for such a great recommendation and for booking it for us and it is essential to book as we got the last table for a Tuesday. We were greeted by a very friendly and knowledgeable young lady who encouraged us to try the white sangria, wow what a great starter drink, it is made with peach liqueur and white wine plus some mystery ingredients.

OUR FOOD WAS INCREDIBLE, we ate ceps daube with veal kidneys; pepper lasagna with anchovies, aubergines and ham toast; THE FISH SOUP; monkfish and prawns in sauce americaine. The memories of this food bring back all the flavours and smells of that delicious food.

NEEDLESS TO SAY A BIG THANKS TO THE STAFF, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

We made reservation in Chez Mattin when travelling back from Spain, going North.
Reservation is needed, because it was full - on a tuesday evening (working day/week ). Very stylish welcome and setting. The me,u is composed of lot of fish and quite traditional Basque food. We were suggested to try the Ttoro (pronunciation "Tsjoro"), a speciality of the house, served since over 50 years. IT is a pan filled with fresh seafood, in a magnificent sauce...
So good...
My wife had the entrecote, which was also excellent !
If you are in the area, this is a must.... WOW.

Traditional Basque cuisine does not need much improvement, but at Chez Mattin they have somehow managed it. They make good use of the amazing local ingredients, so plentiful in this wonderful region, and incorporate them into revisited Basque mainstays. All our dishes were utterly delicious and I just loved the 'chipiron a la plancha' served over the most wonderfully flavoursome and perfectly cooked piece of pork. It is no wonder that Chez Mattin is a local favourite and it totally retains the charm of family run, rustic restaurant (evident in the typical decor) while serving a refined food offering. Full marks all around.

Off the beaten track from the touristy spots on the sea front in St Jean de Luz, this little restaurant was a real find. We had a fantastic meal in this very charming family-run restaurant. The fish and oysters were incredible, as was the pork neck with roasted apple and other dishes our friends had. A superb wine list, excellent service, and great attention to detail. Well worth the lovely walk out of the town.
