My grandmother was Baptized here in 1917 so my family and I always visit and light a candle and say a prayer after we leave Café Du Monde. It is a short walk around Jackson Square.

Of course you can't miss the St. Louis Cathedral near the river. It is a free entry and a blessed respite from the gritty and noisy French Quarter.

Thoroughly enjoyed seeing the artwork in the cathedral and reading about it in the helpful brochure. Then sat and relaxed in the coolness and listened to the chant they had playing. Nice downtime after touring and shopping. I understand it closes at 4 pm most days. Missed the gift shop which closed at 3 pm.

Not the most beautiful Cathedral, but certainly historic! Make sure to plan to stay awhile outside and watch the performers who gather.

I would definitely stop to see this Cathedral. Even if you are just walking past. I would visit both at daytime and after dark. Great photo opportunities there.
