Owner description: Luhur Batukaru Temple is one of Bali's key directional temples (Bali attractions) and a site of pilgrimage for Hindu Balinese. The Pura Luhur Batukaru lies in solitary clearing 1,300 meters above the sea level, all around the Batukaru temple you'll find a garden of flowering frangipani and hibiscus, with a gigantic, inhabited, humid tropical forest all around it. The impressive placed Batukaru is situated on the slopes of Mount Batukaru since the 11th century, which is an especially sacred site, even by Balinese standards. That's why all visitors have to carefully read and abide the temple rules posted clearly at the entrance. The temple is high on the slopes of the mountain and the often misty, drizzly micro-climate here just adds to its undoubtedly mystical atmosphere. Due to the cool climate and high rainfall (has the highest rainfall on Bali), the shrines in this temple are covered by moss

“Batukaru Temple”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

This is a very beautiful and unique temple as it is situated in the middle wild forest and certain regulations applied here for maintaining its holiness and sacredness. The environmental view is in serenity and gives a shade to the heart of visitors. I feel it very much.

“Spiritual place”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

One of the biggest temple in Bali. Its situated at the foot of mount Batukaru. Fresh and cool. Its good to visit when you going to Ulundanu temple, Jatiluwih and Batukaru temple...If you drive strait from Kuta , it took around 2 hours drive. Along the way to, you will see green view of rice field.

“Pura Luhur Batukaru”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

Lost in the middle of the jungle, the temple Batukaru is only rarely visited even if it is one of the six major sanctuaries Bali.Le Pura Batukaru is the guardian of the western region. Spirituality over us as the place is serene, well-preserved and protected from the onslaught of traders ;;;A place to visit

“best mountain temple”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

this is so much nicer than bersakeh as its often tourist free and has a really special atmosphere with dense vegetation, massive trees and the newly restored lake to enjoy in addition to the lovely temple structures - well worth the drive!

“perhaps better than average”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

I guess this should be rated as 'Good' but there is no rating for that and I don't think 'Very Good' is right so we are stuck with 'Average".
That said, I was really looking forward to visiting this temple after reading a few articles about it. It is reasonably remote and the setting is quite beautiful with forest all round, but the temple buildings themselves were not very impressive so it was a bit of a disappointment. There were not many other tourists around and that to me is a bonus, but I find it hard to recommend the long trip here when there are other places much easier to get to. As mentioned in other reviews, if you are visiting Jatiluwih rice fields this is not too far further to go, although the road connecting the two places is in pretty bad condition.
