Description: Nestled in New York City's Upper West Side, Levain headquarters is a cozy neighborhood bakery where locals are greeted by name. A steady stream of loyal regulars stand side by side with tourists, eager to sample the legendary baked goods. From an inventive array of rustic breads to the world-famous six-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie, everything is baked on-site, fresh every day from the finest natural ingredients. What doesn't sell that day goes to help feed the hungry-a mission that has been solidly in place since the beginning. The bakery was founded in 1994 by friends Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes. At the time, Connie was in banking and Pam in Fashion. The two, both competitive swimmers, trained together for the Ironman and-not surprisingly, as their tireless workouts left them feeling starved for great food- they began a passionate dialog about creating the world's greatest chocolate chip cookie. Within just a few years, Levain Bakery had become a neighborhood institution and a destination for epicurious travelers from around the world. Demand continued to grow. In 2000, to satisfy their regular clientele summering in the Hamptons, the two opened a second bakery in the village of Wainscott on Long Island's East End. And today, through their website, they now ship their world-famous cookies to happy fans around the globe.

They're a little crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The cookie I got was still warm and the chocolate inside melting, but they probably always are at this location because I had to wait in a line that formed outside the shop and they probably bake around the clock. My chocolate chip walnut cookie was worth the wait. If you don't want to wait in line, there's another shop in Harlem :)

The cookies are absolutely amazing! We especialy loved the chocolate peanutbutter and the chocolate chip Cookie. Just be careful not to order too many since they are gigantic! You have to try them at least once. The bakery itself is really cute too :)

I left it to my last day in the city to visit Levain Bakery, I had a bit of everything. Muffins, Cookies, even just jam and butter on their home made baguette. I left a few cookies until I went home and they survived the transatlantic trip so i could continue the joy at home. Amazing

Absolutely the best cookie in the world. The chocolate chip almond is amazing. I will always visit this bakery every time I am in NYC.

Many people have posted about this already but I just wanted to add another positive review after trying 2 of their cookies. 1 was a dark chocolate cookie and the other one oatmeal raisin. I found the later one even better than the 1st one! If you are strolling around Central Park try one of their cookies! It's just $4! The queue wasn't that bad... I only had to wait for 10 minutes. It was a Monday around 4pm when I got there.
