We planned dinner at La Messeria dei Vini as a special occasion on a Saturday night. Booking was easy through Open Table and the restaurant phoned my cell phone to confirm. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially Vincenzo our waiter who helped us navigate the menu and wine list. I would say that the food is authentic in that the dishes reminded me of the meals my Italian mother would make us. It was true Mediterranean with no pretense, no heavy sauces or garlic. Beautiful. All around us families and friendly groups were enjoying their meals as well, which made for an overall experience which was a little noisy. If this is what you're expecting, you won't be disappointed by anything else.

Fast paced...some noise..food very good. Wine list has a lot of choices. Waiter can't do enough for you. Try it...I think you should leave very happy...expensive.

By the fifth day of our trip to New York we were starting to get the feel of things (although we had tried to get a drink at a nearby rooftop bar, only to find it was shut for the winter...) Masseria dei Vini was loud, very busy and full of happy people. The service was excellent - apart from when our order was taken. We both ordered meat dishes, described just in terms of the protein source on the menu. We ordered sides, only to find that the meat came already fully laden with appropriate accompaniments. The sides were superfluous and, despite an Herculean effort, most were returned to the kitchen uneaten. A quiet word from our server would have solved the issue before it occured, especially as we did ask specifically...
The food, nonetheless, was well presented and very well cooked. My duck, in particular, was just the right side of pink and tender to the tooth.
Excellent, but go hungry, or order carefully.

Ate solo at the bar, and had a fantastic dinner . Valentina, the bartender who served me and said she was only there for December then moves back to the other Masseria, was fantastic . She steered me in the right direction . I had a presecco with with salad special , which was an arugula salad with Apple , parmesan cheese, truffle oil , over a beef carpaccio. Excellent . Next I had a veal ravioli and a Primitivo( recommended by Valentina) that was perfect . Next was their cheesecake , which was light and fluffier than a typical NY cheesecake with a 20 year Tawny port. Next an espresso to cleanse the palate before an 18 year Macallan. Decadent, fantastic service , and loved it .
