My husband and I enjoyed a lovely spring dinner at The Modern. This is a very popular restaurant so book your table early. We were seated at 5:30pm, well ahead of the dinner rush in both the bar and in the dining room, at a lovely table by the window overlooking the courtyard garden shared by the Museum of Modern Art. Our sommelier, Chase, recommended an outstanding wine that we had never tried before. My husband *really* wanted to have the 8-course dinner while I thought I'd prefer 4 courses. Our wonderful server, Pearla, explained that the entire table had to choose one option or the other. So...I went with the 8-course experience - and I assure you...it was just fabulous!! 'So many unique and unexpected combinations of flavors, incredibly fresh ingredients, exquisite presentation for each course, a knowledgeable waitstaff who delivered each dish with a complete explanation of what was being served, just the right amount of food on each plate and perfectly paced service even though the restaurant and bar were quite busy. (My husband has a fish allergy that the chefs accommodated expertly and without detracting from the quality and excellence of his meal.) We took our time with the meal and later enjoyed a half bottle of port served with bread and five well-selected cheeses. We have travelled all over the world and dined in fine restaurants. The Modern gets our outstanding review for atmosphere, cuisine, service (no tipping), presentation and unwavering attention to detail.
