On our visit to NYC we decided to try Babbo for my birthday dinner. We took our 15 and 17 year old with us as well. We ordered the Mozzarella di Bufala for an appetizer and it was excellent. The 4 of us each ordered a different pasta dish and everyone was extremely happy with their dish. For dessert we ordered the Caramelized Banana Cheesecake which melts in your mouth. They also brought out some mini Italian biscotti and cookies for a special treat which was a nice surprise. Service was excellent.
The tables are close and the restaurant is loud, but I find that typical in NYC restaurants and am not usually bothered by it even though I am from the midwest. The teenagers loved the choice of music being played and I thought the atmosphere was classy. My husband had called ahead to tell them that it was my birthday which was not acknowledged by our server, but I don't think he was given the information. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant!

It's no secret that the dynamic duo of Chef Mario Batali and NYC restaurateur Joe Bastianich operate some of the best and finest NYC Italian restaurants. Suffice it's to mention the Michelin-star-studded La Sirena, Del Posto and Casa Mono, among other exemplary city dining establishments. With that being said, a serious credit is due to a restaurant that opened its doors 20 years ago, and yet it manages to stay 'au courant' and be relevant amidst hundreds of new, 'hot' and trendy restaurants popping each month in New York.
The food is excellent. Not only it is creative, well-thought, beautifully designed but at the same time it succeeds to preserve its original and authentic Italian roots, and, at the end of the day, be simply delicious.
The interior is beautiful too. One can forget for a moment that the restaurant is located only a few steps away from Washington Square (along with its both positive and annoying nuances) only to be transported into a venerable Old World eating establishment.
We can only review the downstairs dining area; because of the late hour we did't have time to venture upstairs to explore. The downstairs dining area features not-so-close positioned tables, some comfortable banquettes, beautiful interior of old European tavern and pleasantly subdued lighting.
The service is excellent, efficient, quick but not hurried. The servers provide in-depth explanation about the food preparation and wine served.
As with other restaurants by Batali/Bastianich, the prices are on quite forgiving level. 7 or 8 courses Tasting Menu is priced at $99 pp, try to beat that for a MIchelin-star restaurant. And in reality, our meal consisted of 9 courses, considering the amuse-bouche (a generous size chickpeas bruschetta and another complimentary dessert). The accompanying wines are also priced in a rather budget-friendly way, $75 per person for the regular pairing ($115 for the reserve wine pairing).
All-in-all, beautiful restaurant, beautiful Italian food, great service.
Definitely and highly recommended.

I really love this restaurant. The food is very tasty and the service is excellent. Its very easy to go there alone, if you don’t have company. You will get a nice place at the bar, and from there you can follow the beautiful work the people do there. I will absolutely recommend this restaurant.

This was my first Mario Batali restaurant outside Eatily and it lived up to the hype. We ordered three different pastas to share and they split them and brought them out as different courses. Service was fantastic and the pastas were exceptional. The rock and roll music in the background worked well within the classy atmosphere. In a city with an ever changing and evolving restaurant scene, I would be a regular here.

We have eaten here several times. It is right across the street from the Washington Square Park Hotel where we like to stay. The food is always inventive, delicious and well-presented. We have never had a bad dish there. Hooray for Marion Batelli!
