The location of the hotel is superb but for us that was the only area where our expectations were met/exceeded. Lovely restaurants around (try Oliu e Piu, Ribalta or Mermaid Oyster House) and easy to get to many of the NYC highlights on foot from here. The room decor was nice but the room was so small it was uncomfortable. Service at the bar wasn’t very good on either of our visits which I think was bad luck but still not acceptable when you’re spending 80 dollars for 4 drinks. Overall stay was fine but wouldn’t come back.

Very convenient Village location at Fifth Avenue. Close by are Murray's Bagels, Blue Bottle, Cittarella, C.O. Bigelow, Beacon's consignment and many wonderful restaurants. Perfect spot to be near Parsons, New School, NYU. Had Barrow Queen with a window seat. Lighting could have been much brighter but the room was a good size with a very nice bathroom. Staff very courteous and friendly. Nice treats left every night.

Room Tip: Choose a room on a higher floor to provide more light and a view.

This was my second trip to the Walker, and considerably worse than 12 months ago.

I had a number of issues with my room, and the hotel were unable to resolve them, and didn't allow me to change rooms.

Firstly, the heating. Travelling in winter, NYC is cold. The room was chilly, so I put the heating on. Between going to sleep and waking up at 3am, I'd gone from freezing to being in a sauna. Looking at the thermostat it was now 7 degrees above the temperature set. Reception just said that it was an old building and to be expected - none of the thermostats worked.

My plan for the subsequent night was to keep the room cooler, but the bedding was very thin (so you have to ask for an additional quilt, which took over three hours to arrive and needed chasing).

When the heating is on, it's very noisy and annoying.

The smoke detector (besides being positioned in such a way that it wouldn't detect any smoke!) has TWO lights that flash quite brightly EVERY SECOND. The hotel said this was normal, and offered to turn off my detector (which I declined, and suspect would violate various fire regulations).

There is a motion detector for the heating that is bright and makes a faint high pitch noise every time it's triggered. It picks up movement in bed, so is again, very annoying and hinders sleep.

There is NO sensible storage. Yes, there's a wardrobe, but nothing else. No space in the bathroom to leave more than a toothbrush (and after you use a glass, they do not replace it, so I had 3 our of 4 nights with one glass, not two in the bedroom). I had to leave all my toiletries on the desk. The desk is cluttered and has little space to do any work. The bedside table is very small - you can just fit a phone and bottle of water on it. Unlike even budget hotels, there is no paper or pens provided in the room.

The lighting in the room is very poor. With the curtains closed, there are two bedside lights and a small desk lamp, these give a nice subtle light in the main part of the room, but not enough to work/pack/unpack etc... The other lights are by the door but don't light the main part of the room.

The staff seem to have little knowledge of the city. I needed a new pair of jeans and asked for nearby shops, and I was directed quite a few blocks away, and not to the Levi store one street away!

For a luxury hotel, it's missing a lot of the standard in-room items. There is no kettle/tea/coffee facilities, no mini bar, no paper, no pen, no shoe polish, no flannels/face cloths,

The inside of the wardrobe was quite dusty, and not ideal for storing clothes.

As an able bodied traveller, it's hard for me to pick up on what an accessible room may need. There are clearly some well thought out things here, such as the low racks in the wardrobe (but this prevents hanging long coats/items), low level peep hole for the door, locks at a sensible level etc... However they've positioned various elements of furniture so I think that a wheelchair would struggle to get around the room. The desk would not be easily usable, and plug sockets would not be easy to get to. There's a wet room which is good, but the support bars are positioned so that the toilet seat won't stay up. Also having a wet room means once you've showered you can't go back in.

The room service food was pretty poor. My fries were all burnt and pretty bland, and it was basically $35 for an average burger.

Some elements of the hotel are good, such as the style, but overall I can pretty confidently say I won't be staying here again, and will recommend colleagues to look for alternatives.

We went to New York for my wife's birthday. When researching restaurants, the ones we wanted were all in the Greenwich, Grammercy, or West Village neighborhoods. These are some of the top restaurants in the city. The Walker was in the right place. They have a friendly staff always trying to help. There are a restaurant and a workout room right in the hotel.

The staff at the desk were very nice and very professional. Got a room with 2 double beds that was adequate in size for a typical New York village hotel. Clean and comfortable. Small and quiet which was nice. Hard to control the air. Room was warm. May need to work on that issue. I will return.
