Extremely attentive staff, very energetic atmosphere, and great food. One of our new favorite restaurants in NYC. The Grilled Octopus, Duck Leg Confit, and Coq au Vin were delicious. The warm apple tarte tatin for dessert was a perfect ending to a fabulous meal!!

This was a 5 star French meal - food, ambiance, and service. From the friendly maitre d to the unbelievable food. Get the frisée salad and duck confit! Wine flights are wonderful ($4 less before 7p).

It was our fortunate destiny to stumble across Amélie after watching a French movie in the Village. How appropriate, n’est-ce pas? I had read the unbelievable ranking in TA (22nd out of 9100 restaurants in NYC) and thought maybe it would be a great place and indeed it was. The name also reminded me of one of my favorite films. I would rate it “Excellent” based on being an excellent value combining outstanding service and the good food at a reasonable price.

The service was amazing. It was attentive and fun. I was taken back to dinner in several restaurants in Paris where the waiters were similarly playful with an understated sense of French humor. Our particular French server (Anthony) was particularly charming. Anthony was very knowledgeable, particularly regarding the French wine selections and cheeses. We ordered a recommended bottle of white wine from Savoie which was nice counterpoint to the entrees we selected.

Amélie serves French comfort food done well. We ordered the mixed green salad which had a light lemon dressing, the roasted duck leg confit with sautéed wild mushroom, and the whole brook trout pan-roasted. We finished with a cheese plate and their vanilla bean crème brulee with sliced bananas which were delicious. Every plate was reasonably priced.

The restaurant itself is Parisian which is to say small and crowded. It is decorated in somewhat the whimsical style of the movie. Because it is popular, it is important to make a reservation. I wish it were located on the Left Coast. I will just have to wait until my next trip to New York!

My friend questioned the TA ranking based on the numerous high-priced temples of haute cuisine in New York, but you need to remember that these ratings are based on more average folks and not the Michelin food judges. I have eaten in Michelin three star restaurants in Paris and found Amélie to be just as satisfying in its own way.

My husband and I visited this restaurant for dinner whilst on a trip to NY.

The only reason I did not give the review 5/5 is because of the close proximity of the tables to one another. There is not really much space to move!

I love the place however, and would definitely re visit. We booked ahead of our visit to NY and I am glad we did otherwise we would not have got a table as it was so busy. When we arrived, we were promptly seated at our table by a friendly host.

The food selection was great along with the wine menu.

There were plenty of people standing in the bar area enjoying drinks but this just added to the atmosphere. I loved the music too!

Great place!
