Pleasant Holiday Weekend in FIDI

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Dec 28, 2023
Convenient location to all in FIDI! I stayed for two nights while visiting my son who lives in a studio on Wall Street and works at the NYSE, so everything was literally right around the corner. Hotel is well maintained, with a traditional atmosphere I personally prefer over modern decor. We dined at Delmonico’s which couldn’t have been any closer. As a hospitality professional myself with nearly 40 years in the industry, my only recommendation to management is to invest in a better quality coffee. Many of us look forward to that first cup in the morning. Instead of my usual “ahhhh” after the first sip, it was more of an “ewwww’. Funny how such a small thing can make such a big difference ;) Thank You for your hospitality!

This is a classic little hotel not far from Wall Street, which harks back to another era. The lobby is spacious and charming in its original decor of yesteryear. The lift has linen wallpaper and the rooms are similarly decorated in original style.

Despite some fittings, including the drop-down iron/board with timer, and original ipod charger alarm clock, no doubt having spent many years in situ, the rooms are in very good order and wonderfully tidy. It has all the needs of a business traveler, including safe, hairdryer and basic toiletries and the room is also surprisingly spacious for NYC.

Breakfast is included, which is pastries, yoghurts, waffles and toast. The service is warm and friendly. There is a fitness centre in the basement, which I did not get a chance to use. I don't believe there is room-service available, but there are a number of nearby spots for food.

I found the location a little hard to navigate as it's slightly tucked away in the lower reaches of Manhattan, but handy for those working around Wall Street.

Whilst there are many fancier hotels in New York, this one offers considerable charm and amenities for those doing business in the area.

We really enjoyed out stay at the Wall Street Inn. The Inn was clean, comfortable and quiet. The Inn is in a great location. Easy access to the subway. The staff was wonderful and answered all of our questions. The breakfast was perfect for what we needed before we started our day. We much appreciated that that coffee, tea and water was always available. I would stay at The Wall Street Inn again. Thank you!!

We really enjoyed our stay here, the location is fabulous in the heart of downtown Manhattan. The room was huge (especially for Manhattan) and the bed was very comfortable indeed. The staff at check-in was a little cold I felt, but we got in OK however the helpfulness of the staff on check-out was fabulous - thank you. We did have one issue with noise from a neighbouring bar, a band playing which didn't go off till well after midnight. There was not much sound-proofing in the windows. Without this it would easily have been a 5 star minimum review. Nonetheless we enjoyed our stay.

Room tip: Choose a room in the front (S. William Street) if sensitive to noise.

I rarely write negative reviews but... I was actually disappointed with the hotel. The ratings were very good, but the heat in our room did not work when we first arrived, our sink and toilet did not drain, they did not have coffee 24/7 as promised (unless you wanted to use hot water and instant coffee), and when we checked out early no one asked us why or offered us any sort of discount on our last night. I was in town to run the NYC marathon. The desk staff saw me leaving to run and saw me return from running- no acknowledgement at all. They were unfriendly the entire time. When I asked to turn lights on in their "dining area" so I could eat the bagel I brought with me before the race, it was a chore...I will stay at a Marriott or Hilton in the future.

Room tip: I was not a fan of this hotel.

This is a hotel with character in an ideal location which does not cost you an arm and a leg to stay. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to any visitor to NYC, it is well-maintained and the rooms are large (from a European point of view) and very comfortable. We had the good fortune of being moved from our queen-sized bedroom to a King-sized bedroom next door and could compare the two and found both to be of very good quality. This was due to a problem with the room door lock which was dealt with very efficiently (the hotel technician is always available). We loved our stay here and were particularly pleased with the hotel's location which was within easy reach of the subway lines (a metro card for 7 days now costs $35 inc. card fee). A taxi fee from JFK costs flat rate $70 +between $7 & $13 + tip. Great eating choices nearby and it's no problem walking to 9/11 memorial or Brooklyn Bridge. There is always room for improvement and the hotel breakfast was rather bland and the place could do with some fresh decor. In particular, the room carpets will need replacement soon. Still, the Wall Street Inn is a great choice!
