I was staying at the Moxy Downtown because it is one of the closest hotels to the start point of the Great Saunter, which starts at Frances Tavern. It is only a few blocks away.
The hotel is very nice. It is located on Ann Street which is just off Broadway so it is a good location for anyone who wants to stay in the Wall Street area. I have to say that the rooms are really small. It is more like a bed with a room around it then a room with beds in it. I could barely maneuver around the room there was not much space to walk. Because of its location, I had a view of the building next door and the heating unit below. That did not make much a difference because I was not in the room that much.
It had a nice bathroom and the bed was super comfortable. Their bar area, Residence, was very nice and had a hip vibe to it. If you like hanging around a bunch of noisy twenty year old's, it is the perfect place to go. I had a few drinks at the bar and I have to say, the bartender could mix a drink. I had the Picos Colota and after two of those, I felt really relaxed. It was so noisy in the bar, that the bartender got my order mixed up and instead of getting the Beef Sliders, I got the Pork Belly ones. It was a nice mix up as they were delicious.
You know who the hotel is catering to when the noise level of the DJ was unbearable. Everyone was screaming over one another (including the 20 year old's) because it was so loud. I have no clue why they do this because no one can ever talk. I could tell even they were getting annoyed by it.
Also, the front desk people were all dressed in casual clothing, so casual that I did not know they were the staff when I checked out. I thought the front desk guy was another guest. He was dressed like he had just come into work and had not had time to change. Very nice but not even a name badge. The Residence Inn a few blocks away at least has a person in a jacket so you could identify who he was.
I thought the stay was very pleasant and it really is a pretty hotel but I prefer the regular Marriott or the Residence Inn in the future when staying in the area. This place tries too hard to be hip that the line is crossed on who is who in the hotel.
